first AP- question?
Hey Guys, very excited about my first AP, wasnt expecting this to happen because APs are so hard to get. I live in Kansas City and have nowhere to try and see them or buy them. I bought a Zeitwerk shortly after buying a Lange 1 and about a week after I got the Zeitwerk it had to go back for a new dial and that was almost 5 months ago. I told the sales guy I wanted a "loaner" after spending that kind of money and not having anything and he said he would send me a new kermit but I have so many rolexes i said send me anything but a rolex. I was so suprised and excited when a royal oak offshore showed up. I was thinking about buying it and I was in Aspen for Christmas (where I bought the other watches) and immediately went to see what they had. They had an amazing inventory, and I was in between the green aquanaut chrono (they wanted $208K!) or this AP Perp. I bought the Perp and am so excited about it.
I do have a question, I was away from the watch for about a week and when I got back to it over the weekend I started noticing a noise from the 'weight' on the back of the watch. I can really hear it move around. I dont remember hearing it before and its sort of bothering me. I called AP this morning and he said theyre all hand made and can be different, I'm curious if any other owners know what I'm talking about? For example, when i put the watch up to my ear and shake my wrist, it almost sounds like something is loose. I know its just the weight moving back and forth, but should I be able to hear that? Thx, Brian PS- I'm having trouble uploading pictures, what am I doing wrong- keeps saying files are too big? |

Congrats on the purchase! Post some pics for us.
I just got my first AP this month as well, and I noticed this same noise. Made a thread about it, and clearly it seems to be quite the norm for AP. https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=834418 I noticed mine became quieter after a day or so, maybe because it was fully wound up at that point? |

It’s super normal to hear the rotor move around / wind - 100% okay and it happens on all of mine.
Since it’s been dead for a week, I’d recommend using the pushers to reset the time. Please post pics and enjoy it in the best of health - it’s an AP classic and there aren’t too many directions you can go having started from there! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Noise very normal, happens with all my APs although more on some than others. Also happens on my Reverso and my Nautilus.

I believe AP uses ceramic bearings for the rotor so they are definitely noisier than say a Rolex rotor.

What happened to your Zeitwerk that required a new dial after 1 week?!

Appreciate all the responses guys! Anxious to post pics but never figured it out, im sorry but i will do it.
The watch is a 2018 stainless steel blue dial, and i absolutely love it. Also no one asks me anything about it, very under the radar, unlike some of my rolexes that appear much flashier to non watch people. The Zeitwerk had a very small flaw on the dial, I didnt notice it, but my local watch maker friend here noticed it under his lupe and recommended i get it replaced. I never got the watch back and it wound up being part of the trade on this AP. I also traded a couple panerais i no longer wear. I was fortunate to take delivery of my new bronze panerai just a couple days before i got the the AP. That bronze panerai is a very cool watch too. I'm going to figure out how to post pics, this is ridiculous! |

Trying to decide between the two, honestly it wasn’t that hard of a choice and I haven’t looked back. That’s my Lange in the back Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

This is the zeitwerk I traded. Only got to spend about a week with her but it’s a cool watch and I’d maybe get another down the road. (Maybe covered the premium I paid on the perp lol) crazy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
