Day Date in Steel, possible or not
I am a fan of Rolex watches and have a nice collection as it stands. I am thinking of adding a Day Date in 2022. Which got me to thinking, not that I would do this, as the watch is only available in precious metal could the dial and movement fit into any currently existing steel models? And if so has anyone done it?

My lady wants a Day date in steel. There is legend of a prototype day-date in steel from the 50's so you could seek that out.
Tudor makes a Day date in steel, it is the perfect solution. But then you would have to wear a Tudor. |

Alternatively contact TRF member Jocke ... it's the only one I guess could have done that experimentation ... |

It's on my 2022 prediction list. DD40 and Panda Daytona are the only two references I'm interested in at this time.

I think Rolex wants to keep the image of Day-Date as precious timepiece only.

If anyone has a 1262xx and a 12823x, you could give it a try. If you want to experiment that is. Wouldn't be surprised it would work on 32xx movement references. |

Highly doubt it. Rolex calls it the ultimate watch of prestige.
It was designed and meant to be in PM. |

The DayDate will NEVER be made in Steel. Op, Why dont you just buy one in White Gold? Or is this purely a money thing? WG gives almost the same look from 2-3 foot away. Only the very rare 0.1% could tell the difference with Steel or WG. |

I think too much emphasis is placed on the PM nature of the DD by owners.
I own one but would personally welcome a SS or TT version with fluted. The Day is a really useful complication, I just wish Rolex would offer it at a more reasonable price point. Also, there are many occasions where I wouldn’t want to be wearing PM but SS or TT would be more appropriate and practical. There again, I wish Rolex would go back to offering the DJ in PM as well. Whatever happened to those? |

Once upon a time I would have said never, then Rolex punched me in the face and released a ss BLRO, then a ss SkyDweller. If you weren’t around for that earth shattering announcement, it was a big deal.
So I learned my lesson. Never say never. One thing is different today. Unlike the SkyD which was a reasonably slow seller and Rolex needed to recoup R&D costs which is why it’s on rubber and even jubilee. The Day-Date today doesn’t need to recoup costs and it sells out in every configuration just as much as the cheapest ss Rolex watch. They can’t produce enough in PMs, they can’t produce enough Explorers or Submariners in ss, why would they do something like offer a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist and in fact create another manufacturing issue for themselves. I don’t think Rolex even has enough 904L for what it makes in steel. History usually dictated a Rolex direction and it still does but this one is more about logic and rational and with what they’re doing, the history remains intact. I don’t see a stainless steel Day Date as long as the climate exists where you can’t even see a ss Rolex watch in the case in a size 36mm and up. |

I am really interested in the movement, the complications of day and date interest me and I am a Rolex collector. The steel is much more durable and last but not least, much less cost. So for me it is a complications issue. I do have a Tudor day date and really like it.

Its still under $50k right now for most WG pieces with the Olive fetching a bit more. Might as well buy it now and enjoy. You'll be 6 feet under waiting for a Steel model to come out. Lifes too short. |
