Gift for her: Black Bay 32 or OP 36
Dear RF,
I recently ordered a Tudor BB36 after waiting more than half a year for the watch I was initially keen on purchasing - a Rolex OP 36 (still on waitlist, though). This brings me to my question: My Mother turns 60 relatively soon, and I am thinking of getting her a nice watch. Would you give her the Rolex OP 36 when it is allocated to me? Or get a her a Tudor BB32 instead? Thoughts on this... Pro Tudor: I own a BB as well + BB32 is perhaps a better size/fit than an OP36 (women) + she will be less worried about the BB (swimming, gardening etc.) + risk of Rolex being perceived as an 'heirloom piece'/indirect gift to myself (or is this just me?) Against Tudor: Rolex is superior + risk of Tudor being perceived as a 'lesser' watch when other family members own Omega Speedmasters/Aqua Terras Either way: the oyster style/case and durability suits her lifestyle well. But thoughts and comments on one watch vs. the other are much appreciated! Thanks |

I don't care about the 'as good as Rolex' thing or whatever. I own two Rolex. And a Tudor BB41. I got my girl who is tiny a Tudor BB32 black on bracelet. She has worn it 24/7 for a year and two months now. Swims a mile every morning. Thing is an absolute workhorse. Just keeps ticking along. It's a beautiful piece that obviously isn't a Rolex, but that does not matter.
