Opinion on a Daytona repair..

Hi All,
After sending my Daytona 6263 for a Service, I was told that there is a small chipping between the 7&8 O’Clock, which I never noticed. They are telling me that they would be able to restore up to approximately 85% of the black enamel.
Would you recommend that I have it done or should I not touch the dial? Would it drop the value, if I decide to sell it someday?
What would you do?
Your expert opinion is appreciated.

My question to you is why would you have them fix what you have never seen on your dial?
Since it was never a problem for you can you at least get a photo of what they are talking about first and then decide?

I agree you need to judge based on a photo. And I hope you have a photo from before you sent the watch in.

Apparently it can be only seen with a loop, I will ask them to send me a picture.
But in your expert opinion, generally in a Vintage watch world, repairing a small chipping on the dial would decrease the value or might it be better to keep it original and untouched even with the chipping?

Rolex always wants to make a a valuable watch "As new" and ruin the overall value.
Take it to an independent who is an expert and has a Rolex account.

Get it back and send it to Phillip Ridley in Arizona. He is the go-to guy for Vintage Rolex service, and is well known here at TRF.
You will not regret it, and he will not ruin the watch's history or patina/wear, etc. Just a complete service if you need that.

"never noticed the smalll chip" . . . . loupes cause more trouble than they are worth.

Keeping it as original as possible is key to value retention

If I couldn't see it there is no way I'd repair something aesthetic that decreases the originality of my watch.

I completely agree with the others and leave it as-is. Too many things can go south when handling a dial, especially an expensive one like yours; and I know Rolex does have the correct replacement dial that they would give you if damage was to occur.

If one looks close enough at anything in life, then they will find a defect and that is what it sounds like to me if one can only see under a loupe.

I have asked them to send me pictures, but I have decided not to touch the dial.
Thank you all.
