New ROC ref 26240
Hi all,
What a wonderful few weeks it has been with AP kickstarting the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Royal Oak with some amazing new pieces. Whilst the 39mm Jumbo's have no doubt taken most of the limelight; however I for one am incredibly excited about the new 41mm chronos, particular with the subtle tweaks, such as the they way the case and bracelet is much more comfortable, the polished bevels, applied logo, and all that before we even talk about the movement and fly-back function. The new steel 'Khaki' dial version is just gorgeous, really stunning and not overly done. Whichever material / dial combination takes your fancy, no doubt they will all be very challenging to get indeed, especially for this year! What are your thoughts on this? |

I went for the silver/white dial.
I want it to be more of a daily watch and I already have 2 blue ROs (15400 and Ti QP) and the lighter dial is a nice change! It's very dynamic in person. I do think the green (and blue of course) look nice as well.

All 4 variations of the new ROC are nice. Would not mind taking either if offered one. Wish they kept the old style 'AP' on the dial though. That would have made it the perfect watch.

Great choices and will make a nice change to what you already have. In all honestly I would be delighted with any of them but my firm first choice is the khaki green, super cool. I too will miss the AP logo, however perhaps its part of the allure of the anniversary piece that they have chosen to change it up.

Good choice, I’ve also elected to grab the silver model. Will I ever get it? Maybe. But it was either that or nothing.

Quick shot from when the watch was first opened at the boutique ... I'll get some more pics in the wild soon.

Thanks for starting a discussion on the new 41mm ROC! Here’s my two cents for whatever it’s worth.
The changes to the new 26240ST include a 1mm thicker case to accommodate the new in-house movement. I’m curious whether this would make the new ROC wear more like an ROO? I’d be especially interested in hearing anyone’s on-the-wrist experience with the 26240ST’s newly designed bracelet. The new bracelet is narrower (in width) than the previous two generations and now includes a significant taper toward the clasp. Even more notable is that the individual links are noticeably thinner when viewed from the side. It would appear there’s now almost slight mismatch given the side-profile of the case lugs and the links? In my mind, the thicker case, married with the new thinner bracelet, not only has a less-integral appearance overall, but wouldn’t necessarily wear “much more comfortable” on the wrist. Lastly, I feel the new dials of the 26240ST’s somehow seem a little less interesting than the outgoing 26331ST. Perhaps it’s the added spacing between the three sub-dials, or the deletion of the AP logo, or the reversion back to the monotone sub-dials of the first gen 41’s. Rightly or wrongly, the second gen 41mm 26331ST with its contrasting registers has historically been valued higher among collectors than the first gen 41mm 26320ST. I’m assuming AP has its reasons for taking the third gen 41’s back to first-gen territory. My guess is they’re saving contrasting sub-dials for a future 41/steel release? Thoughts? At first it was “nay” but now it’s “maybe this year”. Fingers crossed but I don’t have much expectations. I’ve set my mental goal to get it in 2024 latest. |

For me personally, the 26240 is perfect - I’d previously been eyeing the 26320 as my personal preference is for a monotone dial/subdial color scheme and having the date window centered between the 4 and 5 hour markers.. but now the 26240 has all of that while having the updated movement and sapphire case back! I did speak with my SA last week and while he registered my interest on my profile, he also said it was pretty unlikely I’d be able to get one (or any RO really) this year. For context, I have no purchase history but have been speaking with him since April of last year, when he created a profile for me to register my interest for a 15500.
Fingers crossed for all of us - and congrats wiswrist on your piece! |

Dial is shinier in finish compared to previous generation. More metallic if you will. Bracelet I think previous generation was a bit more balanced weight wise, however, this is really quite nit picking and I'm sure the average person won't notice the difference. The thinner link was probably needed to leave enough space for the wrist after adjusting the lugs like they did a bit with the ROO 43. Overall fit is an improvement like the ROO 43. It feels less like a 'plate' on the wrist. The height is noticeable sitting next to previous generation ROC, but by itself probably most won't notice that either. Finally, I think the sub dials are too far apart and the 26320 layout probably was still the best, but all considered, great improvements and would be happy to have in a collection. |

I agree, although it's not that noticeable for the monochromatic dials. For the Panda style the somewhat-too-small movement of the 26331 was just right:

My official ask this year will be this and the 38mm ROC 26715 in blue. Like they finally fixed the date window too.

A lot of things I like about the new ROC, symmetrical subdials, centered date, open case back with in-house flyback chrono and the new khaki dial. Having said that I definitely like the contrasting subdials on the 26331st much more.

Luckily I think panda plus logo makes the 26331 unique enough to keep along side the new ROC. I do wish they would retro fit a display back for the old generation though! |

I also wish they kept the AP logo, but wouldn't mind any of them honestly.

This made me smile, I hope you get yours soon. The dial is purposely subtle and in certain light it comes to life, spectacular. Probably one of the best watches I own. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
