Early Sub Bezel Assembly

I’m doing some research into 62xx/65xx bezels and finding it difficult to get clarity on actual makeup of the assembly —

On these references, was the bezel simply held on by the wire retention spring slotted into the bezel or was there a flat retention ring similar to later “push down” references?

There was a thread I can’t seem to find that had the actual gauge/makeup of the common wire size — anyone recall?
