15412 Rainbow

This beauty just arrived for my wife.

Rather than a ‘flex’ post please take this as simply being a stop on a journey that all of us AP fans are on. I’m sharing these pics as I don’t think it’s that likely that any others are going to appear on TRF.

As a bit of back story, my wife and I have been long time AP customers but we are far from big spenders, rather we both only buy what we like and what we want to wear. In this instance, the moment my wife saw this particular model she wanted it. That’s all well and good, but in our watch world ‘want’ doesn’t equal ‘get’ but on this occasion our friends at AP made it happen.

For the record, this has had six links removed and is now a perfect fit.

My wife knows you think this is a men’s watch and to that she directs you to AP’s marketing and she really doesn’t care anyway.

At the moment I’m not allowed anywhere near it but at some point it will get its first ding, that will be the cue to me being allowed to get my screwdrivers out and put some more links in. On that basis, if Meek, Quavo or JB are members here, then drop me a PM, let’s hang - just remember though that I’ll be wearing a ladies’ watch.

So, to the magical elves at AP who created this beauty and to those who assisted us in our journey we thank you.

p.s.

I forgot to say one last thing. We have a friend who has a Daytona rainbow that she brings out whenever she's in a 'superior' mood - that reign is over!

It’s a fantastic watch! As long as she enjoys the watch and wears it often, that’s all that matters. Congrats!

Wow, stunning.

What is your opinion between this and the RG version especially as it relates to the frosted aspect?

And my real question is, how many brownie points does this convert into?

'Often' is probably not going to happen, but it will be enjoyed in the right places at the right times and in the right company.

My wife really eschews coloured gold, she won't have it on jewellery, zippers, bags, etc. That's why this specific model spoke to her. There is literally no coloured gold on it anywhere other than the rotor which is hidden. It's the only DB openworked model with that characteristic and that's why it's special. If AP had offered her the RG or YG model it would have been an easy 'no thank you'.

To me, the WG frosting is subtle until it hits the light, then it sparkles. I've only seen RG and not YG frosting and the one that I saw 'dulled' the play of light, and reduced the 'bling' factor, which is actually a positive in my mind.

As to brownie points, my wife will remind me that my status with AP is because of her. I open doors, she stops them being slammed in my face. She paid for it too. So on that basis, the honest answer is NONE, but I may be thrown a bone every now and then.

Thanks, she knows how special it is and how special made her feel. From my perspective, given how few there are likely to be of these, it's nice to actually know that there is at least one lady actually wearing one.

The DB movement is used in both the 41mm and 37mm versions, I think there are a dozen or more iterations, but again they all have RG hands, hour markers, bridges etc. and this one doesn't. It was her keen eye that saw it long before I did.

So interesting that you mentioned APs marketing as far as gender choices are concerned. They recently shared with me that all their watches are being promoted across the spectrum. Rolex for instance has a women'a section whereas AP enables you to filter for size, collection, material and complication only. Patek notes "ladies" often in their watch descriptions as well. AP is leading the luxury watch category in this regard and I know it's a wise business move as the demand can come from more folks.
