Goodbye Batgirl, Hello Variation

I’ve committed a TRF crime. I’ve traded my 2019 126710 BLNR on Jubilee (Batgirl) for two other pieces and a big bundle of cash. Why? Because quite frankly I’m bored of looking at the same two dials and the lack of variety that having 2 very similar stainless steel sports Rolex provides. I’m not sure how people collect multiples of the same reference, or even multiple sports Rolex because for me, they are all so similar and after owning both watches for only 8 months I was bored.

I’ve moved my collection from 2 Rolex (2021 124060 No date Sub and a batgirl) and swapped the Batgirl for the brand new Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich and a Panerai 1940 Radiomir (PAM00512) and a big enough cash injection to fund a new summerhouse for our garden.

And do you know what? I could not be happier with my decision. Not only have I unlocked enough funds to purchase a lovely new space for my family to enjoy in the garden, but I have created the variety within my watch collection that I have missed so much after trading my Polar Exp II and a couple of Tudors for my Batgirl last year.

I now have a beautiful Panerai that works well as a watch to wear in the office, when out for dinner with family and friends and not be worried that someone is going to pull a knife and spoil everyone’s evening. And the Speedie, because you know - it’s a Speedie!

Enjoy your Sunday everyone, flame away and call me a Judas to the brand! Quite frankly I couldn’t be happier with the switch

How could anyone negatively criticize what you did? you took advantage of the market, got away with MORE amazing time pieces, and some left over for fun.

Glad you are happy with the trade and having the funds for the extra space for family. More power to you man. Family is where it’s at. Enjoy!

I like your collection and you've got some stunning pieces, each a top pick from their respective brands.

No flame here- you're obviously a WIS, so understandable that the collection changes over time. You have three great references, made the decision with a lot of thought,

Congrats on the move and all done for valid reasons. You can enjoy your varied collection and the summer house, too.

You just need the summer to be a good one to really top it off!

Fair play for following your heart and desires, that’s what I say. This hobby of ours should be about your own happiness and no one else’s.

The above said, I’d probably have kept the BLNR and moved the sub on in your situation but appreciate that you wouldn’t have had summerhouse funds then!

Enjoy your new trio

Although all are stainless with black dials, the brand variety and functional differences are wide ranging and really clever.
As the saying goes, “Always bet on black!”
Nice job!

Quite easily, subject to the usual waiting lists. It will depend on the watches in question and the taste of the owner. You don't need to understand it any more than other people need to understand what you do. Everyone is different.

I don't understand why you feel you should be criticised for doing what you see fit with your property.

Your life, your watches, your money, your business. You're behaving like someone who collects watches for a hobby! If you've got to somewhere better by losing something you didn't like, you've won first prize. Congratulations.

I was surprised when I first read this Ollie as I thought you loved the Batgirl, though, ironically, I’m thinking along similar lines. I have two Subs and with the market as it is I’m thinking of moving my Hulk along for a DJ41 and a Speedie to give some variation.

Love the trio.

This is what I always say.

I always see the same damn collections from everyone. Multiples of the same damn watch but a different half bezel or some tiny red text or some other minute thing.

So boring its not even funny. At least buy a different model, dial color or add some gold or something for color.

Good on you for doing it.

Watch collecting is a series of phases. You are experiencing the growth phase. This will continue for a few years before you hit the precious metal phase. Strap to start then PM bracelets too. Then comes the vintage phase followed by the downsize phase. This is where you sell most of what you have to get back down to the 2 or 3 pieces you stated with! In the end you have shot around 250-500k but you feel fulfilled!
Enjoy your speedy and panerai, and of course your summer house. It’s my belief that the sub and the moonwatch are the two most iconic watches in the world and you have both now.
Congrats.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I often read on here about keeping hold of those precious SS sports models and I agree to a certain extent.

One thing I’ve learned about this wonderful hobby of ours that nothing is forever and I am very much on a journey and enjoying every step of the way!

I concur that it was a good trade. We as collectors go thru phases and stylistic changes and every once in a while need a change.

I love my BLNR and doubt that I will ever get rid of it, but do love that Speedy of yours.

Enjoy!

Love the trio.

Surprised me too if I’m being honest. Genuinely loved that watch but right now I’m loving the additions more!

Hulk would be a tough one for me to lose but only you know if this works or not. Would imagine you would be in a similar position to me with a decent chunk of change coming back your way too?

Haha. What a great summary! I’m planning on keeping the submariner (famous last words) so I don’t have to buy it back again in 20 years
