First Rolex Purchase - Pretty Lucky
As you all can tell, I do not post much. I visit the forum a good deal and just read, but figured I would share my experience with a local AD for my first Rolex purchase.
I purchased a Tudor BB58 from the AD about a year ago. I also picked up a set of earrings for my wife at Christmas and a different watch for our anniversary (the anniversary watch was a month ago). She was with me at the store, and I surprised her with the watch. When I purchased the anniversary watch I dropped off my BB58 for service (it was gaining 15 minutes a day). I expressed interest in the Rolex GMT for the first time. I tried on an exhibition model and talked with the SA about it for quite a while they were sizing my wife's watch. My wife, who knows nothing about watches or the lack of availability of the GMT, unbeknownst to me, has been calling that SA once a week. She also had been reaching out to other ADs on the phone and spoke to one in Las Vegas who told her she needed to do something to stand out to prove that she deserved the watch. My wife called the SA at the local AD and shared the story about her call with the SA from Vegas and mockingly said she was not trying to get a kidney and did not understand how anyone deserves a watch. The SA laughed and enjoyed the story. He called her back a few days later and said he had a 126710BLNR waiting for her. It was her surprise to me. We picked it up yesterday. I think I am pretty darn lucky, it was about five weeks ago that they first put me on their list. I do have a purchase history, but the GMT is probably as expensive or more than all of the other purchases. The SA told us that they like to sell to local people. It was my assumption that was his way of saying he believed we were not going to flip it. I know everyone has different experiences, but that was mine. I have attached a picture below, it took me about an hour to figure out how to compress the photo to get it to upload. |
