Daydate 18238 vs Datejust 41

About the same "Market Price" which will you choose ?

This particular 41 Roman is good looking, but to me the Day-Date always Higher "president" Class !!!

The Size of 41 for someone is Very Modern/Attractive but 36 have it own classical position

The bracelet of 41 is definitely better than Easy to stretch 5 digit President !

I like the DAY-DATE more but you have to be really careful. The 18238 suffers from serious stretch issues and condition is key. The Datejust is safe and no worries.

Also, from a versatility point of view the Datejust wins out. Think about it hard. I used to own the 18238 and I just couldn't stomach wearing an all gold obviously Rolex watch a lot. I am not one for large collections, so it had to be a piece to get a lot of use and it simply wasn't for me at the time.

It'll be some years until I consider it again but it is a fantastic watch. The president bracelet is superb.

Day date. Spend 1000 to get an official service and it will be a brand new watch.

Don’t understand the comparison besides the price.
Can’t compare a stainless steel Datejust to a solid gold President.
DD is a no brainer…

The datejust is 41mm (39.5 actually) in size, which considered the best Modern Rolex Size, Much better bracelet, Better dial color and use a 3215 Movement !

They are very different watches. The day date is a better value imho but get one in good condition with minimal stretch.

I would go with DD, but like others have said, watch out for stretch. Maybe I'm just misguided since it's all overpriced, but when you can opt for a full-gold watch at the same price as a steel watch? Go gold.

Also, have you considered getting an older 6-digit DD on an Oyster? I am also weary about stretch (I don't think stretch was addressed until late 2010s when ceramic sleeves were used so the pins didn't wear away the gold)

Here's my 118205

Steel vs all gold? At the same price? The Day Date, that’s an easy one IMO.

Some people don’t want to wear a gold watch too much, doesn’t suit their style, and to some there is cache and with wearing a gold bracelet watch…think coke dealers in the 80s. That stigma has faded though, unless you look like an 80s coke dealer.

For straight up “value” though, gold vs steel is a no-brainer…assuming you can find a Day Date that isn’t over polished, beat up, terribly stretched bracelet, etc. Condition is everything for vintage.

For me, I would have to see the DD and examine its condition. The DD would have to be very mint for me to take it over a new DJ41. Wouldn't be interested in a scratched and dented DD example with loose links.....

I do like both of the examples shown. Cool Roman dials.

The datejust all day long for me much better looking watch by a mile the azzurro blue dial is gorgeous, better modern jubilee bracelet that won’t stretch, 70h power reserve, I would definitely choose the datejust

MODERN is the word...who knows WHAT future trends will be?
For me, I chose the Day Date 36, the classic size....It just fit ME better..but I'm 67, an old man & enjoy the classic size better.
