Those 'exhibition units' are not dummy models - they are are 100% real
The two ADs I've visited have both claimed that the watches in their cases are demo units only with no working internals.
How I know this is BS: - Some of the watches are running. Either someone wound them in the morning or people have been busy trying them on. - The stock keeps changing. If they were dummies the entire case would eventually be full. There would be no need to remove them - ever. The exhibition units are thus simply a selection of the stock the AD has in the safe. They periodically pull something out to put in the case but they'll certainly sell it within a few weeks. /rant |

Every AD I know says they had to buy the exhibition watches and they were delivered in bulk without papers or boxes. I guess at some point Rolex will forward the papers/boxes and allow their sale. For the time being they are staying put in AD cases.

Who cares?
If they won't sell them, it doesn't really matter. .

To me it only makes sense Rolex would use real watches even for demos that move from store to store.

I wonder how long it will be before an exhibition watch is offered for sale by a watch reseller, with the promise of the warranty card and box being shipped some time in the future. |

I have seen exhibition watches at my AD and only tried one watch and I tried to set the time and get the watch to run, put it didn't function. I will check more of them next time I am in the shop.

Some ADs originally had non-working models. Then Rolex sent working models to stores but kept the cards etc.

I had the opportunity to try « dummy » watches at a Rolex event. Always set at 10:10:31. And they will not run even if manipulated enough to rewind them. I was told that there is no movement in those dummy watches but only a piece of metal to match the final weight of the watch.
But maybe the real movement is in fact in the watch but « deactivated »??? Envoyé de mon iPhone en utilisant Tapatalk |

Did you all know that Santa isn't real? and the tooth fairy is also imaginary. I figured since we're stating the obvious that this would be relevant.

My AD's window stock is their own inventory. Rolex has instructed them that they must keep stock in the window display (still with the demonstration only plaque). The plaque is there as an easy way to not have to explain to customers who want to buy the window stock. Once the next delivery comes, stock is rotated and the old window stock is then allocated to those on their waiting list.

They are dummies because they don’t want to sell to you.

I was at Bucherer yesterday and watched an SA take out a 126618LB to show to a couple he was advising. He was saying something about they have to decide within an hour - I assume he offered it to them to buy. He did put it back in the display case and got a red dial OP out for them to look at. I asked him if the watches have movements and he said yes. Seems to be their stock and you can buy it under certain circumstances. That couple being advised had no clue about Rolex, they were buying their first one.

when I was in my AD the other day, every display watch was set at the exact same time and the date was all the same (I think it was the 28?)

interesting. i can for sure tell you that most are dummy models or have a block in the movement locking it. I have heard some ADs that dont have these rolex exhibition watches make their own with their own stock, so that may explain why. If you can try it on and there is no plastic protecting it, its a true exhibition piece.
I know that AP doesnt play this game. Their boutiques have REAL watches labeled as exhibition but they are plastic protected and you cant really try it on without the plastic cover around the case. If they like you enough they can offer you these pieces. regarding Rolex, anyone find it interesting that they used two tone or less popular dials for these models EXCEPT for the sky dweller? everywhere i have been only has a blue sky dweller. kind of bizarre. wonder if they are unloading the dials to make it even more rare, or discontinued. |

I tried a few on when I dropped of mine for service, they were real. No stickers on them, SA said they are delivered without the warranty cards and are sent back to Rolex after a few months. I would assume the opposite, that Rolex holds the cards for a few months then sends them to the AD to sell the watch.
I'd be slightly irked to end up with a demo model that hadn't been stickered, but probably no one including me would turn it down these days. Something about getting that fresh watch on your wrist after they size the bracelet and pull (most) of the stickers is enjoyable though. Another thing I noticed was the Submariner and Submariner Date both had small bracelets, I'd have to buy an extra link if that is how they are supplied with the new clasp/bracelet, but the AD may be shortening them on the demo models. When I bought my 116610ln I removed a link. The SD43 I tried was the length I remember. |

Of course they're not 'dummies.'
The game has shifted - for quite some time now. People got tired of going into stores with empty display cases, and the exhibition model was the solution. Now, it doesn't really change anything for us non-VIP's, but at least you get to try some stuff on. |

They are real, the Ad I looked in af Xmas had two 60k PM diamond encrusted watches in the window with olive dials. Distinctive pieces. They were there till last month when they both went. That same week both appeared on the website of grey located in the same town I follow. Coincidence? Unlikely.

They are real. AD’s had to buy them.
Papers and boxes were not included and they don’t what the fate of these watches will be. My guy said they need to be careful which ones are in the case because customers get angry when they’ve had that watch on order for years and there it is, in the case where everyone can handle it but they can’t get one. I see both sides of the coin. |

Rolex allocates them examples for the specific use case of displaying and not for sale. They are not inventory just being pulled from the safe. Whether the movements work or not is irrelevant; they are not for sale so just move on. |
