Is 40mm to MUCH for a Day-Date?

I mean Daydate all time classic size is 36mm

It is not only the proportion on 36mm is better

But wearing a full-gold BIG SIZE Rolex 40mm DayDate seem a little too much ? It is slap straight in the face "I'm wearing a FULL GOLD Rolex" ?

May be DD 40 is better with White gold/Platinum rather than YG or RG ?

What do you think about DD 40 compare to 36?

If I were to buy a day date it would definitely be 36. I believe it looks best in most wrists.

I like the 36 and I’m a larger guy. Wish the current 36 came in more variations.

^^ I agree with this. The 40 Romans in blue/green are beautiful!

The fact they do not do the white stick lumed dial on the 36mm DD in all the gold colors is really a shame.

My personal opinion (zipping up flame suit) is that 40/41mm DD/DJ/OP all look awkwardly big to me. I have never seen one on a wrist or in a display case that didn’t look dinner plate-ey. The sports models make sense at 40mm because they demand a thicker bezel and the numbered bezel fills up the space nicely while keeping the dial size proportionate. A 40mm day date is just being bigger for the sake of being bigger, and it comes off as clumsy to me.

Depends on wrist size... and 'current fashion'.

I like 40mm. Tried both on and even my wife was like 36mm looks tiny. 7.15" wrist. 6'3" 215lb

I had a YG 18238, loved it, sold it for the 228238, love it, but now catch myself longing for the 36mm… Tastes change I guess.

I don't think its to much but this is coming from someone who will only wear SS or WG. Also prefer the older 36MM Day Dates!!

36 looks to small on me here is my 40mm (not the best photo to see the size) but my wrists seem the perfect size for most Rolex, full links fit perfectly, well a little loose but I like it that way.

I love the 36mm as I think proportionally it's better for my wrist. The 40mm is just badass and a modern take on an already legendary design.

Had a 36MM Day Date and sold it because I thought it was too small. I don't have big wrists by any means. My next Day Date(god willing) will be a 40MM for sure.

True for me as well.
I do wish there was a smooth bezel option on the
WG 40mm.

Unless you have a larger wrist, 7 inches and above, the 40mm is all head with no bracelet aesthetics and flow to the head. The President bracelet is too nice to be obscured by the watch head.

For me, it would be 36mm in YG or 40mm in WG. I don't have either right now, though.

I think it’s too big, especially in YG/RG. But the proportions are better than the DJ41, IMO. Overall has the same issue as 39mm Explorer: just too much dial.

I don’t think there would be much “Slap” difference between 36mm & 40mm.
I went with WG as I am not a YG or RG kind of person. I can squeeze by with 2-tone however. My DD 40mm wears small. Wrist is 7 5/8.

Yeah, that's why I said in the OP that 40mm is better in Pla/White gold

If you wear the YG/RG you will definitely see the "SLAP"
