Trade Debate
Hi All,
Was wondering on some opinions from the forum as I don't post as much as I used too but still frequent the forums quite a bit. I know it is all a matter of personal opinion but I am extremely torn on the decision. Current situation in the market is absolutely nuts, I currently have a RG day date with the olive dial which is obviously like all other watches trading well above the MSRP on the watch. The AD that I go to has been interested in getting it back from me for some time and is willing to let me trade it in at roughly the current market value, this is what leads me to my situation. I have always lusted after the platinum day date 40 with ice blue dial and roman numerals which I would be able to obtain from my AD and get a few bucks back. I could also trade it towards 2 PM pieces, yellow gold sub and a yellow gold or rose gold chocolate dial day date. I really enjoy the Olive dial, but I am really leaning towards going platinum the only draw back for me is the domed bezel, I really prefer the fluted bezel on the day date. Thanks for opinions I am looking forward to any input anyone provides. |

I’d personally go for the Sub/DD40 chocolate (since you like RG). I like the olive dial, but not enough if I could have those two instead. Bottom line…2PM >1PM. Especially since it’s just a dial color change and hype concerning the DD40

That is crazy a Rolex AD is wiling to give you market prices and still set you up for what you want. That being said, no brainer to go for the platinum! That is the one you wanted and impossible to get. If this is an option, take it now before the change their mind!

I vote platinum as well. You say you've lusted after it, and it's a positive money exchange, so where's the downside?

I have zero interest or knowledge of pricing/values. However, I definitely prefer the platinum DD. The RG olive dial DD combo never worked for me even though it’s a popular piece.

I did a check online. Can’t believe the asking for the rose gold is up there around 100k with the olive! This is a 40k watch at retail. It seems to be asking slightly higher than the platinum with Roman’s. The blue platinum with sticks is higher than both. So if the AD is really going to give you near market value, you would get a little more than a few bucks back, right? What is the platinum at retail?

Rose gold dd and a yellow gold sub new for your olive dial? That’s a no brained for me.

I was looking at the Platinum DD on DavidSW just about an hour ago. My vote is for that…

If I’m reading this correctly. Your AD is willing to let you trade in towards new watches at RRP?
I would definitely do it. Personally I would go with platinum day date, but if you like rose gold why not the Gmt II full rg and the rg chocolate day date. That would be a super combo. |

sounds like the trade makes sense.
I believe I could take the RG chocolate dial and if I ever wanted to could have it swapped to the olive dial correct? |

Platinum is the pinnacle. Having a fluted bezel puts it in the same boat as all the other Day-Dates, Rolex knows what they're doing, make your move!!

Yup i'm absolutely amazed that the olive dial is going for so much, but I should probably strike while the iron is hot.
I'm most likely going to be calling my AD on monday. |

I find it really surprising they’d give you market and allow you to buy at msrp. That’s amazing, have them call me please. Choco and wg sub for me asap

since they're letting you buy at msrp, what about adding some cash and trading it for a platinum + 1 of the 2 others |

1. To me it's a no-brainer; objectively speaking platinum>rose gold (for a mechanically identical watch)
2. To me it's a no-brainer; trading RG DD at market for new watches at MSRP is a great deal 3. To me it's a no-brainer; I've never loved the olive/RG combo (but this is entirely a matter of opinion) If you like the fluted bezel, though, and are willing to forego the ice blue, the WG/blue dial DD w/Romans is beautiful, and leaves you enough for a gold Sub. |

Why would the AD do this?
If you're not sure about the platinum go for the 2 gold watches - you're be getting the Sub for free..

So IMO if he ends up getting the watch a few percent below market he is allowed to sell at market, make his percentages on that watch as well as making his percentages on the watches he is selling me (38 percent or so?) |

I love the smooth bezel on the platinum day date. Sounds like a good deal to me.

This seems to be happening more often now. My AD texted me last week saying he would give me $24k trade in value for my 126610LV towards any watch at msrp (except Daytona). I didn’t ask questions but figured he has a whale that wants one asap and was reaching out to clients he has sold them to.
