Feedback on condition?

Hi folks - I'm looking at purchasing a 116520. The dealer sent me this photo. As usual it's hard to tell the true quality however it is a reputable dealer.

Those that have more experience assessing pics and what to look for, what do you think initially of this condition?

Thank you

That's it, one picture? LOL Not much to go on.

It looks used, but not beat up. I sold one of those years ago, and it's probably worth twice that now.

But I could never read the time on it, so I don't really regret it from that perspective. OTOH, it wears great, is a timeless classic, and looks nice.

Keep in mind that a service on a Daytona can run around a thousand bucks, last I heard.

i posted this a couple weeks ago, feel free to compare to mine! I am not great at determining whether or not they have been polished, but based off that single picture it looks like it has.

Thank you both! And yes, that's the only picture they sent me aside from the advertisement photos. I've attached the ad pictures here:

If condition is important to you then whatsapp and see it that way or lots more photos. Do they have a no questions asked refund policy with 100% refund?

Condition is definitely important to me however there was hesitation when I asked for additional pictures. They didn't really want to but they did it since I told them I was nervous about purchasing (this is my first online watch purchase).

They do have a refund policy, I believe 3 - 5 days or so.

That’s a fake, it’s supposed to have a ceramic bezel.

If the bezel text isn’t faded it’s a good sign.

Hard to tell whether or not it has been over polished. However, a red flag in my opinion if they are hesitant to send you more pictures. From experience dealing with CRM Jewelers, Luxury Baazar, and Takuya (Trusted Dealer) they have always provided even videos to re-assure me of the condition.

Like many people here will say, BUY THE SELLER - NOT THE WATCH.

Yes, totally, it's a fair point for sure. The dealer is Capetown who I believe is not so bad from what I've heard.

Holy polish batman!

Looks like the polisher started with a 50 grit stone and rounded out all the chamfers.

Let me get this clear:

You are based in California and intend to buy a used Daytona watch at an obviously inflated gray market price from a dealer you have never dealt with before based in Capetown, South Africa? Is that correct?

If all of the above is correct, then I would be very worried about this as there are TOO MANY variables in this equation that might cause you to lose a great deal of money. But please provide more details of this watch, dealer, and transaction before we give you any more advice.

I have a bridge to sell you if you’re interested. My bridge selling reputation isn’t so bad. I’m a trusted seller of bridges.

Not based in South Africa! They are in Atlanta, GA

And yes pricing is high ($28k) but where else am I to get this watch a cheaper price?

If a seller is not willing to provide you as many clear photos as you need of the watch before you spend many thousands of dollars then they really should not be taken seriously as a place to buy the watch. PERIOD

Yes, you’re right. You’ve all convinced me to forgo this piece and hold on until I find something better. Unfortunately I’m betting the price will continue to rise though …

If you mean Capetown Diamond Corp in Roswell, Georgia?
If yes, call them and look for Errol Guggenheim.
That store is legit and one of the larger grey dealers in Georgia.
You can try to negotiate the price and tell them it is too polished.
That watch looks different on their website than on the photo you posted.

Good luck.

Yes, that's the one. And yes, I've been speaking w/ Errol. Very nice gentleman but was reluctant to send me any photos and finally gave in and sent me just that one. And I agree, it looks different from the ones on the website. I suppose it's worth trying to negotiate but not sure it will go too far ..

Just be direct but polite. Tell him the photos on his website show very sharp chamfers but the one he sent you shows it is clearly too polished. So ask him for more photos and tell him that its too expensive a purchase if you don’t see the true condition. Tell him that any Daytona buyer will ask the same.
