SkyD Blue or DD40

Genuinely curious. In the current market given both are similar in price would one choose the skyD blue over a DD40?

DD40, it's an icon, it will never go out of style.

YG DD40 is going for upper 40s - maybe 10-15% over list. SkyDweller mid 30s 2.5x list. DD is a better buy under those terms. However, no matter how you look at it they are totally different watches. I really don’t get the premise of the question.

Just to be transparent I own both and got both at retail. The reason I ask is because I would pick the DD40 all day. My wife said she would pick the skyD blue because it’s her favorite watch on me. I saw a SkyD blue in the mid to upper 30’s. A used DD40 can be had in the low 40s.

So I guess it should have been phrased more or less of between the 2 which one would one choose. I used market values so people wouldn’t just say DD40 because of price.

Another reason for the question is in my eyes the DD40 is the ultimate status symbol. But after talking to my AD they said the SkyD blue is the hardest to get watch. It’s basically a tad harder then a Daytona panda.

They said anyone with money can obtain a DD40 but even some of their best clients can’t get a SkyD blue. So In their mind the SkyD blue trumps a DD40. Regardless of my own personal opinion I thought it made some sense.

For my VIP event I wanted to be a little different and wore my SkyD blue. I was the only one. A lot of pandas and Day dates and a few Pepsi’s and whatnot.

I will play the devil’s advocate and say there are plenty of people who would not want either watch. SkyD is just so large, and the DD is a classic style but definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. Different strokes. Regardless, enjoy your watches.

There are so many iterations of the DD40 that I can't really answer that question. I like my favorite DD40 variations better than the SkyD blue if that helps.

If you enjoy the status of the DD, the platinum in ice blue might be the winner here. Has your wife seen that configuration?

SkyD Blue or DD40

I’ve grown to hate the sky dweller. Idk what it is. I think the bezel throws me off. It doesn’t belong on that watch. Unlike the dd40 or even dj36-dj41 where it looks great. Sky basically looks like a big brother to the DJ. So with all that said… DD40 hands down

Daydate 40. Precious metal watches. Theres really something bout a full precious gold watch over the steel.

If that Sky dweller in blue dial were to be in full white gold instead, then when compared to a Daydate. Perhaps I would put my name on the Dweller.

Honestly it has crossed my mind but I really am a fluted bezel fan. I love the dial of the platinum! My wife wanted us to get matching DD so I got the white dial.

I’d be curious on the number of people who own a skyD blue and don’t have at least one precious metal watch.

This is the 2nd thread recently that compares a steel watch to a PM. I wonder if people who have to ask this question have ever owned or even handled a modern PM Rolex. Let's be straight, a PM Rolex is in a totally different league to a steel one.

I’m curious to the amount of people who own a SkyD blue specifically and don’t own a precious metal Rolex.

I guess that's great if it's important to you. I wear what I like and not to impress others. I wore my Grand Seiko to my AD's event and I can boast that it was the only one there.
