The New Classic Explorer

I know the recently issued Explorer 36 is not everyone’s cup of tea but for me it’s like wearing a mid century vintage 1016 but with the modern upgrades. It’s a nice change from my 40-42 mm sports pieces. Just picked this up and it definitely has a classic vintage vibe. Wears very comfortable on my 7 inch wrist. I prefer the taper on the new bracelet. Interestingly the taper is not as extreme as it is on the revised bracelet on the Omega Speedy 3861 which I also own.

Anyone else pleasantly surprised by the 124270?

Yes. Love mine also. It is like a new "vintage" watch.

They are quite charming. Certainly scratched my vintage itch without the issues of a two decade watch.

Looks good on you.

The explorer has slowly becoming my favourite watch. So comfortable and a a nice change from the normal 40mm.

Thank you, I agree it is a nice change up from the usual larger dials. Your Explorer 36 looks great on you as well. Enjoy.

The 127623 is certainly a cool piece. I wonder if Rolex was channeling the vintage gilt 1016 when they designed the TT model. Congrats. Looks good on you.

I wouldn't change a thing about it: as you say, it's classic. I love mine.

Scored one from my AD a few months ago as well. Absolutely love it. Has become my favorite watch. I wear it almost every day.

Congratulations! It looks great!

I couldn’t agree more with your observations. It was bold of Rolex to reduce the watch back to its traditional size and also imbue it with some modern upgrades. The watch definitely feels like a really excellent iteration of a classic.

It would be neat to see a run of Matte dials again.

Excellent observation. I agree. A good field watch should blend in with the rest of one’s equipment and this piece accomplishes that function very well. And still looks good if you want to hit the bar later for a whiskey

It looks great on your wrist. I have been wearing mine for about 2 months. It is very comfortable to wear. I have a 7 inch wrist as well.

I think our size wrist may be the sweet spot for this piece. It’s a solidly built timepiece as well which I like. Rolex finally got the proportions just right for the Explorer.
