Icon14 Nice selection! Happy thanks to exhibition models

At CDG and doing some window shopping. Without exhibition models, there would have been nothing.

I don’t know what people have against exhibition models. You can at least see them in person and try them on. I have seen lots of posts wherein folks say they didn’t like a particular reference after seeing it in person and trying it on, and others where folks didn’t think they would like a particular reference but after seeing it in person and trying it on they really like it.

They complain that they can’t buy them, so they think they’re pointless.

Were you able to try few of them?
There were few threads that the staff don't even allow people to try them.

I’ve been told by one AD I’ve done business with and trust that they’re working models. We played around with a Skydweller so he could show me the complications.

Another AD told me they don’t have working movements. (shrug)

Nice pictures. Rolex does make a beautiful watch to state the obvious.

They are real, but Rolex holds back the warranty cards so the dealers can’t sell them.

Some probably just make up stuff to deflect the “why can’t I buy it” angst.

I was at my AD, in San Francisco on Saturday and they had a lot of exhibition models. I looked, but did not ask to try anything on. I think it would just frustrate me, given the current state of affairs. I’ll just wait for the situation to normalize. I am on several lists.

LOL. So true.

I agree with Cru. After all, I fell in love with my current love, who I didn't know I was in love with, until after trying her on.

My newest AD had display models. They tell me they are real watches that they buy for the purpose of using as exhibition pieces. She says she doesn't know when they might be able to sell them in the future. First time I got to see the Sub41 in the metal. They had a Daytona, BLNR, SD43, YM RG OF, and others. Yes it's all ridiculous but at least you do get a chance to see a few of these in person for a change.

This YG DD40 with diamond markers wasn't too shabby either!

My wife was at CDG last week as well and did some window shopping. She was legitimately in search of a 31DJ for herself but asked if they had any sport watches for sale on my behalf. The SA was very candid and told her they have inventory in the back but are reserving them for returning customers. Of course she went on to tell my wife that if she purchased the 31DJ they had on display for $30k (full rose gold with diamond bezel) she would sell her a sports watch. Would've loved to have seen my wife's face when told that.

Maybe it's the people that don't really care about the watch and only care about the flip $$$

I think the exhibition models serve their purpose perfectly.

The “for exhibition only” sign gives ADs the authority to pick and choose who they sell to. Basically, the days of being able to walk into an AD and buy something off the shelf/display case is gone. If the AD salesperson doesn’t like your face, he/she can just say the piece is for exhibition only. No further explanation required.

ADs in Hongkong won’t even let walk-in customers try on “for exhibition only” pieces.
