Sub Date 41 v. ExII Polar

I'm expecting to buy a sub date 126610ln or a polar explorer II 226570 early next week. Which do you prefer and why?

Depends on the collection. What else do you have?

The Sub 1000x’s over. It’s just such a beautiful classic watch
I tried on a Black and Polar Explorer 2 for the first time yesterday and tbh they both left me flat. I think the stainless bezel is so plain and it kills the watch. Even the AD remarked that she thought it looked lousy
My 2 cents

Collection is entirely made up of Panerai. I've had several Rolex in the past (DJII, 114060 sub, DJ41 fluted and jubilee) and moved over to Panerai during Covid when I was wearing jeans and a tshirt everyday. But now going back to NYC for work more often, I'm looking to get back into a Rolex.

I would vote Sub. More versatile. I don’t think that the Explorer 2 works as well for work. I own a Sub and a Polar.

Sub for sure, then. It's a better watch and your collection isn't diver heavy.

I’ve had the 124060 and 114060. They’re both heavier watches. If you wear your watch loose - which is my preference - the crown will dig into the back of the hand. That stated, the ceramic Submarine is probably the best looking watch out there. However, I found the Explorer II a more comfortable watch. But I don’t own one. It’s just an impression from trying it on.

What's the next Rolex purchase after this? Sometimes it helps to know and plan to prevent duplicates.

For me, I would go Sub if you decide to get any sub other than the all black. It is a classic for sure, but sort of common. If you want the black sub, I would go SD43. It is a more interesting watch, and you must have a decent sized wrist if you are considering the EXPII, and own Panerai, so size shouldn't be an issue. I went hulk for my first sub, but now I would probably go TT black dial, since hulk is gone for the time being.

Having said that, I love my Polar EXPII, and the new black is a stunner. The old black had a very cool tool look to it, but the new black has a more formal jewelry feel, IMHO.

Looking forward to incoming pictures.

Is BLNR an option? That is a good choice too.

I greatly prefer the Explorer II for its overall size, dial size, larger hands and great clarity. I also travel and use the dual time feature often. I like Subs and the GMT but on my wrist they both seem lacking compared to an Explore II

Polar Explorer fits 7” very well. Very clean, simple design. Black Sub in 41mm looks quite a bit smaller. Try on both. Very AD had these in exhibition models.

Sub Date 41 v. ExII Polar

If you don’t have any white dial watch, Exp II Polar is a good choice. But if you already have white dial Panerai, Sub might fit your smart casual / semi-formal outfit for work in NYC better.

I have both currently and the sub takes up most of my wrist time. The ExII is second. The sub should be first because it’s iconic, but you get what suits your eye!

I have a 124060 and it’s perfect. I had a 216570 Polar for a few years and it was awesome but it just wore too big for me.

In a match of the greatest watch of all time vs. a polar explorer 2, my vote is for the former.

I prefer the Sub to just about everything, so I would have to vote that, regardless of whether you are considering the 41 or 40mm version.

The only exception would be if you already own a 6-digit 40mm Sub, considering how close it is to the current 41mm reference.

Going back to the office I’d even consider a DJ41 or YM40, the latter ticks the sports casual very nicely and is different to the sea of subs you’ll see (pun intended)

My collection of Rolex thus far consists of DJII, YM40 and EXPII (acquired very recently),
I couldn’t see myself wearing the EXP II with a suit or even smart casual.

The Explorer II is less seen, less usual.

ExpII

Maybe black, though, if in an office setting?

If I had no Rolex, I'd go Sub Date. Good luck.

Both are great, but can’t beat a sub for your first Rolex.

Depends on your collection and which complications you would find more useful. I'd have both in a collection. I'd take a GMT first, particularly the Polar, and a diver second, .

Submariner all day! It’s a classic! Never been a fan of the explorer 2.
