Buy it only if you like it. Wear it and enjoy.... its not a watch that can easily be flipped.
Yes...it would help your buying history with the AD. Good Luck!

I get the feeling this whole build "purchase history" strategy is about to be flipped upside down. Atleast in regards to buying Rolex to build up history.

In the past they wanted you to buy things like PM to then get the in-demand above retail pieces. Now everything is hard to get and above retail so I think theyre gonna start doing round-robin allocating where you'll be lucky to one piece a year. Blowing your load on something you're not super into might not be the right move because its not like they're gonna be hitting you up next month when the piece you really want comes in. They'll give it to someone else.

Purchase history was supposed to be measure of how much disposable income you had. so if the store makes you happy with some hard to get pieces you return the favor buying things the store has high margins on that maybe are hard to move - like jewelry, panerai, etc..

But with Rolex, they're practically doing you a favor, so nowadays purchase history of Rolex is almost a measure of how many favors they've done for you.

Im sure the super VIP, who are willing to spend boatloads will still be able to get more than others. Just not sure buying that Datejust is gonna do much in the long run in todays climate.

Maybe Im wrong, but if it were me, id be waiting for something I wanted, or I guess you can take what you get and flip it to buy what you want, but don't assume you're owed any favors for taking it off their hands.

Why not? It is a great watch and should be nice to wear and own. I would believe you would not lose much on a later sale or trade and may do better than you paid depending on how the market goes. Let us know what you decide.

Buy it only if you really like it not because you want to flip it.

I think its a great looking watch.

Cool model...... buy it only if you like it and intend to wear and enjoy it. If you really want something else, I would pass.

Why not - you’ll lose a few quid most probably if it doesn’t work out. And if you do want to buy Rolexes from an authorised dealer unfortunately the only way to start is to start buying things.

I personally think the whole "purchase history" and "relationship with the AD" thing is a bunch of BS to make people feel like VIPs. They feel like they have this "relationship" or have this great new "friend" who is a high end watch seller. The AD is in business to sell product. He could care less WHO gives him the money...as long as it's green. If you want him to act like he's your BFF, by all means he will do it...that's what good sales people are suppose to do.

I have decided to go for a 2tone yellow gold dj41 as my 3rd rolex. Hee.
Would like a wimbledon dial or a black dial. Keeping my options limited to these.
My current collections r 2 sd43. Hee. 1 in 2t. Have to get a dj to compliment my sports selections. Hee. Dj is a classic andwe should strive to have 1 in our rolex collections

Couldn't agree more. The purchase history I can understand (they'd favor you because you have spent eg 100k on jewelry and TAG Heuers), but the whole "relationship" with the AD is nothing but a joke in my opinion (and no, I'm not talking out of spite).

I'm trying to get a DJ41 fluted bezel from a local AD. I have a YM, SD43 and TT blue Sub41. Fancy something more classic.

I'd never buy something of that value that I didn't want, or was in any way unsure about. This is the messed-up Rolex-buying times we live in.

And besides, a TT DJ Wimbledon wouldn't be the easiest thing to move on anyway IMO.

If you end up buying it just to get access to something else from the AD, I think you'd be better off spending the money you would've spent on the DJ by just going grey from the outset and getting what you really want.

No. I’ve never understood spending money on something, simply because you were offered and likely never asked for.

Not a game I’ve ever been interested in.

Would you buy it if there was a display case full of them? If not, there's your answer.

It's not that hard, and if you honestly need to solicit advice from complete strangers on the internet then maybe this is a hobby that you're not likely to get anything out of or truly enjoy.
