Dd 40
Ordering my first DD, going with the 40mm. My question: is the WG with the white dial refined / understated elegance, or boring?

Personally not a fan of white dials on my wrist/IRL. I had a steel white dial DJ for a while and I got bored. I think the WG DD40 with white dial looks amazing in pics, but I think I’d get bored with it. Just my opinion.

DD in white metal is understated, but so much class. I went platinum and have zero regrets about the white metal or understated appearance. I even got the smooth bezel-
A white dial is clean and works with any/all attire imo, you cannot go wrong with this combo. |

To provide a little more color, no pun intended, I am fortunate enough to currently own the latest generation of the Batman (oyster bracelet) GMT, green bezel Sub, YM rhodium dial and Daytona “Panda”.
I’m looking for something a little more appropriate with suits, yet still flexible enough to wear with more casual attire and various colors. |

Have you thought about moving out if the Rolex stable? A Lange and Sohne would work perfectly for instance.
Sometimes I do wonder whether I should have bought RG or YG. But there is a subtle elegance about WG. As long as you’re happy nobody will know except you or a WIS Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have…love AL&S and PP, but their entry level watches don’t provide the same level of value that the right Rolex watches do. Additionally, they are not as durable, and I will pass my watch collection on to my son. I do have a Baume et Mercier Capeland two tone on an alligator strap that I’ve had for 20 years now and still love the watch.

A day date is not exactly a stainless Entry piece. I would say that for 30 to 40 K there is a lot of value in the other brands as well. Not to take anything away from the DD40 though, it is a fine watch.

It is what it is. A white dial dd40 in WG. Nothing more nothing less. “Understated elegance, boring, refined” are all relative to the person looking at it. If i saw it in the wild i’d think “nice” and go about my business. I’d probably have the same reaction to most watches unless it was truly a rare uncommon piece you see in the wild. Then i’d think “wow”. Then go about my business lol

True, the DD40 is not entry level, but an AP, PP or AL&S entry level watch is about the same amount, and not nearly as robust or durable. I plan to wear the DD to the office, which is only 3-4 days a week since the pandemic.
And that’s exactly what I’m looking for, Seddyspaghetti…a high quality, attractive timepiece that is not flashy and does not draw a lot of attention. Classic with a kick probably describes what I’m looking for! I do not need others to know whether it’s a $500 watch or $40K. I buy particular watches because they’re esthetically pleasing to my eye and I try to buy pieces that will hold their value or appreciate. |

Boring. With your collection it’s too safe. And you already have the panda. I personally would only get the olive in the white gold. I think it’s very versatile as a dress watch and also you can wear it casually. Plus it will have just enough pop to be interesting and not boring.
I have a white dial YG DD40. I am thinking of swapping to a silver dial. Rolex doesn’t make as many sunburst dials as they used too. But they make the best sunburst dials out there. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don’t think any choice is boring, it’s a day date 40. Obviously comes down to personal preference. For me blue is my least favourite with white gold; I love the olive dial on white gold. White dial willl look very classy.
I went with this and it’s anything but boring Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Dd 40
I tried one on at OCwatchguy and was impressed. I thought I wanted the silver dail with romans but changed my opinion after trying this on. The dial is not your typical white dial it’s matte. I’m wasn’t a white dial fan before, on any watch other than the Daytona, but do like them now. Except for the yellow gold dd40. Still don’t like that one. That could change if I see THIS white dial though as it’s matte and just different

WG is great for someone looking for a perfect watch that flies just a little under the radar or for anyone who just doesn't like the look of yellow or rose gold on their wrists. It's a fantastic watch.

For what you want it for or want it to be it’s the right colour.
I think you’ve answered your own question tbh |

Personally I would have the blue dial, then the olive right behind it.

Champaign is a Classic... I personally prefer a white Daytona or Datejust not a white DD.

There is not a bad choice of dials on a WG DD, IMHO.
I chose the black stick, I feel is is classic and under the radar. The white is beautiful, but for my eyes, the black is more legible at a quick glance. Also, probably the most comfortable in my collection. Get it and enjoy!

WG White dial D-D is to boring for me, I would rather go for the new Platinum with Ice blue dial.
