Anyone change from 6 to 5 digit sub?

I went from 114060 to 14060 because it felt more comfortable on the wrist and fit me better.

Agree on the go figure part. I sometimes wonder if the hunt just as important as the catch in this hobby.

Reverse for me. Went from a 5513 to an 114060. Decided to downsize and now miss my sub. But, cannot decide between a 14060 and a 124060.

It did until I traded it in towards my Platona. Now my six digit YM takes its place. It feels much more inline with the 5 digit sub.

My guess would be that if you didn't bond with the 114060, the 124060 might not be substantially different.

Its so tough to make a decision like this when you can't try a 5 and a 6 digit on side by side!

One thing few mention is the clasp on the newer divers and how big it is. When I had the ceramic 116600 (SD 4k), I noticed how much bigger the clasp was. I never used the glidelock, and did not like the extra bulk of the clasp. I don't think I would ever buy a new sub for that reason alone. I prefer (and kept) my 14060m 2 liner. Super sleek, comfortable, and classic.

I have been thinking about the same thing. A couple of guys I work with have five digit and the six digit. The five digit definitely fits better and to be honest it has more of the “ tool watch” look that I prefer. This may sound silly, but one thing that has stopped me from purchasing a five digit is the lume and quick adjust clasp. I wear a watch to sleep and check the time when I wake. The guy at work says his five digit lume is still pretty good, but he the doesn’t sleep with his watch to check the longevity. Have quick a quick adjust clasp is really nice.
Will Rolex service re-do the lume?

Not sure why you would do that. Modern version has better power reserve and a better band/clasp… two things that are important to me.

Had both but traded the 114060 for a 16613 to add a little diversity in my collection. Both are great subs, but thinking ahead 20 years, the 14060M will look better on my 85 year old wrist!

I switch from a 6 digit explorer II to a 5 digit one. Did so because the case design is far superior in both shape and size, imo.

I’ve also owned 2 different 6 digit subs. Neither of them were keepers. Too much wrist presence with the 6 digit subs and Exp II. I prefer classic. Next is a 5 digit sub.

Not quite, but I've owned other 6 digits, tried 6 digit Subs and have bought and kept 14060M over them all.

It's very comfortable, classic looking, subtle and robust.

It has aged better than later designs (and will continue to).

Prefer the movement to the latest one as well.

I hope that in future iterations Rolex can refine the glide lock clasp

I’ve gone through this thought exercise and experiment many times.

I had a 16710 for many years, and loved it very much. I’ve also had some 16570s.

I lucked into a 114060 at an AD, and really liked the cerachrom bezel and upgrades. So I parted with my 16710 and picked up a 126710. I love the 126710, but it is certainly different from the 16710. After about 18 months I felt nostalgia for the 16710, so I got another one.

I thought about parting with my 114060 and getting a 14060M.

However, I found that for me, I just couldn’t go back to five-digits. Ultimately I let my second 16710 go, and I picked up a 124060.

I love the 124060 — it has subtle but significant improvements over the 114060, with more narrow lugs. It sits better on my smaller wrist than the old super case.

Liked the 114060, but after I got my Black Bay Blue, I rarely wore the 114060, so got rid of it. Now have an itch for a sub again.

I have had a Y series sub date. Loved it. But never a 5 digit no date.

But you have nailed the problem on the head. Can't try on a 5 and six digit side by side. There was a time when it was easy to drop into a shop and find vintage and current, but not now.

If five-digits were still $3k-$5k I’d be more willing to jump back in, but those days are gone… at $10k-$15k you are paying a hefty premium for charm and nostalgia.

To each their charm! I wouldn’t say I “changed” from 6 to 5 because the 6 has sooooo many advantages which won’t list here. But some 5 have unmatched charm such as my flat 4 kermit and the 16710, compared to their 6 brothers

But I’m struggling with the idea of moving to the super shiny, over sized, shouty 6 digit.

I did I owned a 114060 as my first Rolex and later added a 116613lb. I loved both watches and I will say this now, ALL subs are great. After trying on some five digits I just liked them more. I am fortunate enough to be able to acquire and enjoy what I like on my wrist the best. Isn’t that what it’s all about? My 16610
