Spending History, Just what does that mean?

I have a "spending history" with my AD, I have purchased 7 Rolex watches from them. Nothing else, does that count as "spending history"?

There used to be a day when we had a personal interaction with a particular sales person at AD's, and we could seek them out for the best deal.

Now days we are simply part of their data-base population. Anybody at the counter can look you up and you become a dollar-amount.

Nowadays, it seems more about what you've spent on other things in order to be offer the Rolex you want. They milk it.

I can only speak from a different industry, but IMHO, it can vary a lot by establishment. For example, in one perspective that goes beyond the raw dollar amount, it's a spend history, but how that history is 'weighted' could depend on the AD and what specific models you purchased compared to what others are doing.

If they were all high-demand references and you spent a combined total of $100,000, the AD might still prioritize/give a higher weighted precedence to someone who purchased $60,000 of oddball jewelry because, A) they may have made a larger net profit on them, B) this jewelry is harder stock to move, C) this jewelry is easy stock to replenish, and so forth.

I can't speak to individual ADs, but IMHO, some may consider a dollar spent as a dollar spent, and others (arguably, ones that are more savvy) may consider how that dollar is spent, and who is spending it in what circumstances.

Spend $100K on junk you don't want and maybe you will get a call for that SS Daytona.

If it was not spend on a pearl-master or two-tone DateJust, it wasn’t spend. it was a gift to you.

It does until Rolex pulls their AD status, and then it is meaningless. I had this happen to me and it does tarnish your desire to buy another Rolex.

You definitely have a spend history and have shown your AD you’re a no bullshit Rolex watch lover by purchasing 7 of them. How much value would they add to the spend history is another story. As others have said it really depends on your AD but we need more information. What models and when they were purchased for instance.

Some ADs will probably value 50k on a diamond purchase ahead of 50k on a PM purchase. I would.

To sum up, I would think that you’re on the short list for most models at your AD

Ok, I buy from few different AD’s and to answer your question depends on your AD. Some AD’s only care what you buy besides Rolex, they not counting Rolex watches towards your purchase history at all. Some AD’s count everything Rolex and everything else. Ask your AD they usually pretty straight forward with that.

Yea it does. Bulk of my spend history is Rolex and 25% other brands like Cartier, IWC, omega, and jewelry.

For my next Rolex they put more emphasis on the other 25%.

At my AD the only reason why I got my latest watch (126720) was because of my spend history on jewelry. It is probably 30% of what I spend there. For the wife but she doesn't even wear jewelry aside from her wedding ring. I've been buying it to keep status. It was worth every penny.

Of course.
The question would be over what length of time.
If you’ve bought 7 over the last 15 years, you’ll likely not be on their radar. However 7 in the last 2-3 years is a different story. Also if they stock jewellery and other brands, this is often the purchases they “favour”

You’ll know how your AD views your spend history by the calls you get or don’t get

Like many on the forum I could walk into an AD and offer to buy all the sought after models.

I would just be seen as another of the thousands of potential flippers they see every day.

Unless you know the owner and have a long relationship?

We all have spending history whenever we shop at supermarkets, petrol stations, and any other place that sells products we buy.

Really depends on the AD. You should ask them honestly. Also, potential for “spend future” matters too. Also, what you spend the money on matters too. $100k on hot desirable items doesn’t go as far as $100k on tough to move higher mark-up stuff.

Spending X on a Rolex they easily could’ve sold to the next 5 people they asked doesn’t go as far at most places, I’d guess.

That's why I only shop (for Rolex) at the Rolex Boutique.

I really can't stress the enough. Every AD in every location is going to be different as we have seen through the comments. I would just ask your AD and get an idea what their expectations are.
