Trading Two Rolexes For One? Should I Make This Move?

What's up guys,

So I'm evaluating this important "life decision" of my Rolex journey. Currently, I have two watches, one OP 41 and a GMT Master II BLNR. However, since the 116500ln Black Dial Daytona has always been my ultimate goal, lately I have been thinking about trading those two watches for it, as the secondary market price has cooled down a bit.

Does it sound like an irrational move to you guys? or it's a plausible option? I'm currently still waiting for a root beer from my AD... so if I do the trade, that Daytona will be my only watch for a while at least

What color OP41? You may regret it. Just save up and purchase the Daytona when you can.

I have never been fond of trading or sell. My mantra is to keep my watches and pass them down.

My take- do not keep a Daytona as your only watch. It's a loud piece and draws a lot of attention, and unless you have a lot of disposable income, it will annoy you if you damage it from constant wear.

Why do you need two GMTs? I would buy the Daytona, keep the Batman and tell the ad you don’t want the root beer anymore

my person opinion is that the Daytona market will continue to cool well into august and possibly September. After that it is getting close to fall and holiday season. Waiting a couple of months might save you thousands.

I've done 2 for 1 in the past and regretted it. You'll get more enjoyment out of the variety of two watches over one. You have two great watches and it would be an excellent trio if you added the Daytona instead of trading for it.

This is coming from a black dial 116500 owner. It is perfectly capable of being your only watch, but way more enjoyable as part of a collection.

That being said, if you add a CHNR later, it would pair well with the Daytona.

I would always trade two watches for one watch I like more. Heck, I'd trade all watches for one watch I like more. I hate variety.

That being said, I'm not keenly aware of the market values right now. You say the Daytona price is cooling, but is the OP41 and BLNR price also cooling at the same rate?

I’d see what the AD can do for you. Might be cheaper and a potential win-win.

Id do it ina heartbeat since op41 and batman dont appeal to me as much as the daytona. Whats the point of having two watches but dont really wear them?

Also, wouldn’t you have to add $$ toward the trade?

I got the GMT from secondary market few years ago, before the root beer's debut at 2018, and ever since then it has become my fav gmt/two tone. Plus My ideal collection will a ss model, a two tone, plus a full pm... so I still want the Rootbeer anyway haha

I don't think my AD will be able to deliver a ss Daytona for me in a foreseeable near future. I think anything else can be waited out instead of Daytona. my honest 2cent

I do see the rapid fall in Asian market but it seems like the European and us market are still holding up their asking price for a while.

I had 5 watches before yet still wear the hack out of my Apple Watch lol. I'm on your side of that statement for sure. the second part is kinda right, but gmt and op price is dropping in a slower rate comparing to Daytona for past two months so

I would rather keep the two you have now. Like many, I really wanted a Daytona but liked them less and less the more I saw them. Black looks the best to me but it seems eligible to tell time and screw down pushers on a chrono makes that complication practically useless. Great looking wrist jewelry, though.

I would do it. I've been waiting for a white 116500 for 3 years. A few big life events came and passed. I now believe I should trade for it once I get allocated some pieces.

your GMT and your OP41 value is going to fluctuate and they'll likely have relatively similar differences anyway. Good luck.

As an old saying goes, the least useful function of a watch is telling time.

I wouldn’t do the trade myself. I tend to want to add instead of subtract. That said, only you can gauge you’re personal happiness with whatever pieces you have or want to get. Good luck!

It would be an irrational move for me. That doesn't mean it will be irrational for you, so long as your Daytona jones doesn't distract you and deprive you of two iconic watches which you may end up regretting trading.

Another way of looking at it is blunt but serves as a reality check of sorts: if you have to ask, the answer is no.

That’s a no for me. You’re losing too much money and borderline giving the OP away for free

Is the Daytona RRP?

Personally I wouldn’t make the trade, you have two perfect watches that compliment one another. The Daytona is beautiful but doesn’t exactly do everything the other two can.
