Can you fix a bad polish with another polish? 16570 pics

I bought this 16570 a couple years ago and the polish job is not that great. The sharp beveled edges are gone and the brushed finish on the top of the lugs is mostly gone and now looks smooth. The good news is there's plenty of meat left on the lugs.

I'm debating sending it to Roliworks for my next service and only having them polish the top of the lugs to original brushed/ matte finish. And also restore the chamfered edge.

Or I might just leave the watch as is. Any opinions team?

Not sure about the case, but the bezel looks so rounded with fuzzy edges. There should be a crisp line from the brushed face to polished lip.

Here is my 20+ year old bezel, never polished, and my new replacement bezel. I would consider putting any restorative cost towards buying a replacement bezel.

Just FYI, I did have the case polished by RSC while having the bezel replaced.

Bracelet replacement too? If so, may I ask the cost from RSC?

Bracelet replacement too. Original bracelet had hallow end links and the RSC replacement bracelet had solid end links. I am really enjoying the SELs. It gives little more weight and it gives a more solid feel.

Price wasn't in USD, but the replacement bracelet was about $850 +/- some FX conversion.

If it bothers you enough sell and replace or laser welding with a company like LA Watch Works but be prepared to pay.

Unless it has sentimental value, I'd flip it and replace it.

Rolliworks is the answer if you keep it. Going to be about $1K.

Personally I would restore it to "original". Your EXP2 current state is too shinny

Unless sentimentally attached, and even then I would consider replacing the watch with a better example. For the money that it would cost to get this watch right you could just trade and add money and get the watch you want, in the condition that you want. It is an either or for me, sit tight and just enjoy the watch you own or get out of it and get a better example. I would not go down the rabbit hole of repairs, polishing, refinishing, etc. It is like plastic surgery on a movie star, we all see it and it really does not help in the long run. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Unfortunately, when I bought a couple of my watches, I didn't know what to look for in terms of case condition. I knew the model and era of watch I wanted, but was not as educated on case condition. I have learned a lot along the way. For me, the knowledge was acquired through buying a few watches.

I'm thinking I'll either just keep this one or buy a better example. If prices come down, I'll probably buy better examples of a couple of my watches.

I tend to agree with William that going down the rabbit hole of repairs and refinishing might leave a sour taste and I prefer all original. Thanks for the feedback.

Send it to a RSC for service and they will do an excellent job of returning the watch to its original condition plus 2 years of warranty

where in Ohio are you located? I'm rolex trained and certified in refinishing, and I could make it look a lot better than it is. I'm in Metro Detroit, at Leo's Jewelry in Wayne. I'd be happy to try and make it look a ton better for you, no charge.

William, I really appreciate the offer. Right now, I'm leaning to just keep the watch as is and just enjoy it. When it's due for service in the next few years, I may consider getting the bezel replaced and/ or a light polish to bring back the matte finish on the top of the lugs. But it doesn't bother me too bad and I still love wearing it. I might just keep it as is.

The watch doesn't really have much sentimental value, but I would hate to sell it.

Thanks again for all the input. It's nice to see different perspectives.

I'd just enjoy it like this and send to rolliworks or LAWW when it needs a service. No reason to increase the cost of ownership now when it can be done down the road.

I'd be more likely to wear it for 1-2 years and move it on anyway so it really wouldn't be worth the cash to fix it for me.

Seriously, if you guys want them done ( pk552502 & HAL330) send me your info, and I'll send you both labels. Just cover shipping back. I love helping members, and now do all of our store's refinishing. We are a brick and mortar retailer of 77 years (since 1945) and were a rolex AD for over 45 years until 2020 when the great shutdown occurred.

here's a members watch our team and I fixed back in 2017 I think before I left and came back to my current position at the store.

The good bits start around page 10 or 11.

Shout out to Leo's! I bought a pre-owned GMT and a new Daytona from them in 2019. They are awesome and convenient to DTW. My SA was Alicia - the owners daughter (and future owner I presume).

She's still here, but out on the road selling to the PGA. Her fiancé plays on tour, but she was in last week, and drops in all the time.

She's super nice and treats customers very well and with respect. Those have been my only purchases from the store and I got a good deal on both. Chatted with her dad once too- also kind and very knowledgeable . They both made a great impression on me.

Honestly, difficult to find that experience, or even find a watch, at most Rolex ADs. Leo's is great.

Her dad David is like a second father/grandfather to me. Absolute salt of the earth. I don't think I've ever met a kinder or more knowledgeable person in my life.

We lost AD status back in 2020 when rolex did the great shut down, but have more watches in stock now that are brand new, or a few weeks old new and preowned than we did before when we were a dealer. After 77 years of doing this, our resources and connections are second to none.

My personal goal along with Alicia is to continue operations thru 2045 and have Michigan's oldest continuous jewelry store in the same location for over 100 years.

The Rolex watches that I've bought used are polished more than I personally would like, but the fact is that when I saw those watches in the display case and tried them on, I liked them enough to cough up the bucks, which I thought were reasonable prices.

I think that the only reasonable options are to live with the watch as it is or sell the watch and buy one that fits your preference better.
