Do the new 50th anniversary 37mm models have slightly different dimensions?
I've always loved their 37mms, but always thought they were just a touch too small for me. For some reason, the 38mms didn't make much of a difference either (specifically the 26315ST, the dial looks a bit too cramped for some reason). I've heard from a couple folks that the newer 37mms model seems a bit wider or the dial seems a bit bigger? Is this true?
Would love to hear any first hand experiences from anyone who's had the pleasure of seeing one in person. Thank you so much! |

I would imagine that the dial looks “bigger” because the new models have less text in the dials (ie: no automatic text or AP logo)

There are larger bevels sloping down the lugs and bracelet
This gives them less wrist presence and appear smaller, but look nice and slender as a result |

They are also 0.8mm thinner, which is enough to be noticeable. I have not tried the 15550, as I know that it will be too small for my taste - not sure if someone who finds the 15450 marginal would think there's a large enough change. Great watch if it fits, though.

My 37mm 15550ST wears perfectly on my 16.5cm wrist. The cleaner dial, better proportions, thinner bracelet, all makes for an amazing end result.

The slimmer profile of the 15550, which as noted before is emphasized by the bevels and less text on the dial, makes a larger difference than I was expecting.
Saw a 15450 alongside a 15550 at the AP house today and liked the newer one better. Both are great and though the 15550 is slimmer, it didn't wear noticeably larger imo. It made a difference, but not in a way that would sway you towards a 37mm if you felt they were too small in the first place. I actually prefer the 15450 dial to the new one due to the applied AP logo and small index at three. The slimmer profile makes the new one a more attractive package for me regardless. Thickness is probably emphasized by the smaller dial on the 37mm, so almost 1 mm makes a huge difference here. To conclude: the newer model wears a tiny bit larger, but it's not as noticeable as going from a darker dial to a lighter one for example. On my 6.5 inch wrist the blue 15550 felt too small btw. |
