Icon2 Bonhams - 116610LV collection - 1 from each year

FYI - Bonhams is auctioning a private collection of unworn 116610LVs: one from each year of production. One can also bid on a Hulk statue.

These auction houses are actually core to the problem of this whole mess … which is thankfully reverting.

It’s interesting that they’ve opted to break it up into separate lots. I’d imagine the appeal would be to the monies collector who’d want the whole set. As individual units—even NOS—they seem far less compelling. At least to me.

In any event, agreed—quite silly.

Thank you for sharing. I'm very surprised to see the negative comments regarding this Rolex Submariner Hulk Collection on a "Rolex Forum". I had to register so I could comment. I heard about this collection a few days ago and started researching it. It's already received a ton of press from large companies such as Robb Report, Watch Pro, Maxim, Hype Beast, etc. Just the Hype Beast article has had over 26,000 views in a few days. These watches are certified unworn with box and papers. They're offering one example from each model year which I've never seen done before. Finding an early Hulk with this pedigree is extremely difficult. I'm confused why a real Rolex enthusiast wouldn't appreciate NOS examples of a discontinued extremely popular watch. Regarding the prices, if anyone follows NOS Hulk watches the estimates are in line with the values even on the earlier models. Finding a "real" NOS Hulk from a 'real" seller with no BS is no fun. If I were in the marker for this watch I'd be registering to bid with a company I can trust. What else could a buyer ask for?

Are you saying you aren't in any way related to the seller or the auction house?

The prices are a bit "optimistic" IMO, especially when you factor in that none of them appear to have stickers, so the description of "factory fresh" is a little bit of a stretch, plus as a buyer you have a 27.5% premium to pay on the first 25K, and then 26% on the rest when the hammer comes down.

It’s def not worth the asking prices individually. Mayyybbeee (huge stretch) as a complete set. But let’s be honest, how many people are out there in the market for something like that? Also the other thing to factor is I’m sure Rolex will release a new variant of the Hulk at some point (similar to Kermit and then Starbucks). Then what?

You're about 6 months late getting top dollar. Unfortunately you will be the bag holder on these. When these no sell, Id be interested in a 2018 serial for 12k.

There are quite a few “internet warriors” among the enthusiasts here. Consider sticking around anyway and enjoying your stay. There are good people here too.

I like it for what it is: One of the world's most niche and less diverse Rolex Submariner collections - ever.

I agree that in these days, the timing is poor as "everybody hates Rolex" these days.

But looking at at from a just loving Rolex watches collecting perspective - like many here (should) actually belons to - this way of collecting is at least...structured.

Optimistic probably, but you never know; who would have thought Paul Newman's 6239 would fetch $17.7M.

Sounds interesting.

Not sure why a watch auction triggers some folks, they have been around for years.

Even as a weirdo watch lover myself, if I went to someone’s house and they showed me a bunch of identical looking Rolexes with the only “discernible” difference being the year of production, I would think there was something off about that person.

Welcome to TRF. It's true that some people in here appear to dislike the brand, its ADs and even its watches. But it's a big forum and I wouldn't be too put off by a small cross section.

Having said that, your post does come off as someone pushing a sale. And a price gouging sale at that. Look at it from another direction - new member touting overpriced watches. You'll find there are many more people in here who loath price gouging than dislike the brand.
