Incoming!! (Kind of)

I’ve had the itch for a new watch for a while now. I’m confident my AD will get me one the watches on my “wish list” by the end of the year but have really wanted something new for the last few months. I still refuse to pay secondary asking prices, although a few models are getting close to my comfort zone.

I’ve had this watch in my safe for about 4 years now. Unworn, unsized, fully stickered. Still a brand new watch that i would take out from time to time to enjoy. I’ve had thoughts (and tried) selling it, I’ve thought about wearing it but every time i came close I’d just put it back in the safe. The last few weeks I’ve been really thinking about it and came close to getting out a few times but again, just left it in the safe. We’ll today i said screw it, if I’m not going to sell why have it just sitting there, so i did the unthinkable and pulled it out, tore all the stickers off, sized it, set the time and date and started wearing it!

This watch has always been one of my favorites and i love how similar yet so different it is from the Submariner Date.

Here’s a few pics!

Congratulations on the new watch?

It is rather a long time to have a watch sit in a safe whilst you decided what to do with it but its yours so I suppose it is all right to keep it in the dark and locked away.

Pleased to see that you are now wearing the watch, enjoy it.

I guess we can consider that to be a "new old stock" watch. Looks good on your wrist. Glad you are finally enjoying it!

Personally would have found it very hard not to wear the watch after having spent few thousand dollars on it. But there is nothing like a fresh watch. Wish my GMT was still that fresh. Wear it in good health.

Most impressive is your level of patience. I’m blown away, 4 years in a safe, brand new. Lol well done. Congratulations and enjoy that beautiful sleek NOS GMT.

Don't really have a good answer for you.

I bought it and initially put it in the safe as an "investment"
I quickly realized how silly that was and tried to sell it a few times but always had my price set way too high as I never wanted to actually sell it. After all that I just let it sit in the safe wondering what I would do with it. I had thought about waiting till my son was older and giving him a NOS "birth year" watch. Then I had thought I would just keep it in the safe and eventually wear it, just wasn't sure when. Then, like i said in my OP, I have been thinking about it a lot the last few weeks/months and finally just decided to pull it out and start wearing it.

No real reason why I kept it in the safe and no real reason why I chose today to peel the stickers and start wearing it. I guess this hobby makes you do funny things sometimes

Perfectly sane to have a mid-level mass-produced Rolex sitting in a safe for four (!!!) years while "enjoying it" from time to time *.

Guess with prices falling daily, it was time to figure out that a black GMT will no longer (and may never again) be in the mid 20's and trending higher, so it's actually being USED (I know, shocking concept)...

"Seller" and "buyer" rejoice !

Black dial/bezels are just so wearable ,gives it the edge over the colorful.
31xx movement too and a late serial in manufacture.

Great reference. Now you just need to brush the PCLs and you're set. Congratulations!

Great watch! I guess 4 years ago Ad's were not required to remove stickers?

Nice. Now that you’ve unstickered it, do you wish had done so earlier? Enjoy!
