Does a Sub 41 LN and an Seadweller 43 overlap in a collection?
Would two of these watches in the same collection be overkill? For the record I have a Sub 40 hulk as well.

Depends on the collection and the collector. There is no right answer. I wouldn't mind a SD but it wears too big on me and is not comfortable enough. Wearing a watch I thought didn't fit me properly and was not comfortable would be overkill.

I voted no. Obviously it depends on what else you have in your collection to a certain degree.
If these are your only two, then I may have voted yes. I’d probably want a different complication If you have a larger collection, I think having a SeaDweller takes it up a notch. IMHO, the SeaDweller is a niche piece, a connoisseurs piece. Those that know, know. |

Yes, Keep the SD43 if you have it. You already have a Sub Hulk. I would add a no Date Sub to an SD43 and Hulk if you really want a Sub 41LN

Yes, I see some overlap. I would let one of the two go, the one you wear the less.
I own a SD43 and a TT blue Sub41. I don't see overlap there because of the different look. Same with a SD43 and a Hulk, they look different enough, colourwise and sizewise. |

If divers are what you like there’s nothing wrong with that at all.

No, one is an unwearable, top heavy, uncomfortable, badly designed (caseback) Rolex and the other is a gazelle svelte daily wearer that is just 0.04 mm larger than previous iterations yet is called 41.

Totally depends on what your collection “philosophy” is. Do you have a theme?—is it dive watches? Then maybe not. But if your goal is to have a small collection with a range of different looks, then yes, that’s a pretty significant overlap, especially if you consider that to about 100% of non-watch-people, the two pieces would be absolutely indistinguishable at a glance.

Personal preference and how an individual wants to collect. In a smaller collection that is not dive watch focused it is a duplication.

yes, i sold my no date sub and replaced it with the SD43, never regretted. the SD43 has far better proportion than the submariner imho.

All depend ms on how much you like divers. Could be yes, could be no.

As others have said, it depends on your collection. If you just have the SD43 and the Sub, could be, but if they are part of a larger collection? I don’t see any redundancy.

Here size matters and they just don't wear the same. For me the 41 is the only choice.

Does a Sub 41 LN and an Seadweller 43 overlap in a collection?
I got 2 very similar subs. Submariner and Sea Dweller 16600. Even that doesn’t overlap if you like divers and want variety. All a matter of perspective. Also Depends on the size of your current/future collection. Total I have 5 subs if you include the YM rhodium. I wouldn’t sell any of them. They all have their place

My SD43, comfortably on my wrist as I type, rejects your opinion in favor of “The SD43 is a testament to Rolex’s tool watch history and is arguably one of the best mechanical dive watches ever made and the other is a glitzy pseudo tool watch that’s really got no purpose other than for wannabe flexers.” There, I feel much better now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sub 41 and SD 43 are essential for a proper "collection".
A collection has direction and cohesiveness, it is not a bag of whatevers.

if you are strong, have well developed muscles and wear it not too tight, you should feel comfortable wearing it. the SD43 is not for the weak.

Yes, there is overlap, but you can certainly have both, depending on how you want to compose your collection. The SD is too large for me, the Sub suits me perfectly in a number of ways.

Yes, as they are both divers with the same overall aesthetic. To the average non-watch person, they would look like the same watch. As a collector, if you like divers, it’s obviously totally fine to have both…though the 124060 version of the 41 would be the sub to have if paired together imo.

To those asking if I'm going for a dive collection, no. I've got:
Sub 41 LN Sub 40 Hulk Daytona 116519 WG gunmetal dial YM 126622 Slate dial Seadweller 43 Platinum DD Ice blue dial / baguette markers / fluted bezel AP 15500 white dial VC 4500v blue dial Patek 5164a I am trying to go for a varied collection to be honest, not dive-centric. So I suppose that lends more credence to having one leave the collection. |

Ok, that’s a holy $h!t collection you’ve got there.
If I were you, I’d lose one of them (probably the SD43, but I’m not into huge watches) and probably go for a Lange dress watch or or a Journe or something. Actually, if I were you I’d just stare dopily for hours at my watch box. |

You already got the new fluted DD platinum? Awesome. Got any pics? Haven’t seen one yet since W&W. Or do you mean the current baguette bezel DD? Haven’t seen the fluted one with baguettes? Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

To my wife yes. To me, no. They are two totally different watches from a collectors stand point. If you have to ask though, I’d lean on saying yes, they will be redundant for you.

I voted yes, however I think it comes down to personal preference in collections. Along with how each wears. I wear everything in my collections, some more then others. If a SD43 doesn’t wear well for you then I wouldn’t keep it.
