Blancpain Leman Photos
Okay, I made a half-arsed attempt at getting some pictures of the new BP tonight......
First the requisite shots of the packaging: The outer box: Opening this will lead you one of the best wooden boxes I've ever seen - very nicely executed : Then opening this reveals my new baby! Here I tried to capture the applied markers, which quite frankly are spectacular against the black face. Wearing this in the sun the faceted markers just sparkle : Some detail of the markers and hands: A couple of quick movement shots - need to do better on these at some point: And last but not least, a wrist shot : I hope you enjoy the photos, because I'm enjoying the watch! Thanks for looking. |

You know, I wasn't sure I liked it from the earlier pic you posted. But seeing a wrist shot, I have totally come around. That is one beautiful watch, Al. Not sure I'd give up a Rollie for it, but it is very, very nice. Wear it well.

Stunning watch Al.
I think the local AD carries Blancpain now. I will be looking at those a little more closely next time I visit them. I would have traded the YM for that one also

That baby really looks terrific, Al. I guess the one Rolex I'd trade in for that would have to be a silly mid-sizer!!

Must say Al even looks better on your wrist, love the dial with the part Romans.Great movement and a lot of history to Blancpain horology speaking.A fine presentation package, looks like bur walnut, that manufactures like Rolex should supply, at the prices they charge for watches.Right though there complete range, and not reserved for high priced precious stones/or metal ones.Wear it in good health Al love it,but still prefer your Glashütte.

And regarding the Rollie, let's just say it had not graced my wrist in months and months, so I felt nothing but satisfaction getting rid of that millstone around my neck! |

The 6850 movement is based on the F. Piguet 1151, not ETA. And the question of "in-house or not" becomes complicated based on your interpretation of "in-house." Blancpain was "revived" by J. C. Biver and J. Piguet in the early 80's from what I've read, with Piguet having the controlling interest at 51%. Now both Blancpain and F. Piguet are owned by the Swatch Group. My impression is the relationship between Piguet and BP is quite close, with joint development on some calibres. I believe that the base 1151 has been used in other companies watches as well.
