Thanks to the recession......

Someone here once asked if this recession is a good time to pick up vintage Rolexes.Well, my answer is a definite YES.

Prices of vintage Rolex, especially for me , the GMTs, have gotten to very reasonable levels.

Here's what I got this year.......hopefully more to come.

Hope everyone like what they see.......P.

A 1675 and a 16750.....

A 1803.....

A 6mil 5513 with a gloss dial....

And a couple of TIGERs......

Recently I bought an S series 16700 GMT for less than $3000.
I think it is a nice watch for the money even though it is not really a "vintage" Rolex in my way of thinking. Maybe someone can advise me if, in fact, that was a reasonable price to pay.
I also am considering an U series Zenith movement Daytona for $9000. Although I have only been interested in these watches for a couple of years, the prices appear to be lower by 20-25% than they were 2 years ago.
I am open to any input if someone wishes to offer their insight.

Recession / collection

Nice stuff!

I've also been happy with the availability of watches. I had had a couple 60's and 70's Submariners (Tudor + Rolex) pass through my hands about 20 years ago and last year I sold a 14060 I purchased new in 1999. I immediately regretted the sale and started looking for an earlier Submariner and/or GMT to replace it. In the past 6 months I've been able to find an RSC serviced '64 GMT 1675, a late 80's 5513 which Bob Ridley brought back into shape, a couple small Tudor Subs for my son and wife, a 16610 and an early 60's 5512 (not shown). Plus a couple [inoperable] Rolex Oysterdate Precision and an earlier ladies watch from Thailand.

Not sure if the prices are higher or lower than in years past, but sellers seem motivated.

That 1675 is gorgeous. Yes, a good time to be buying things. After this passing storm, when the sun comes back out, so to speak, pieces will climb right back up in price.
