Ideas for engraving on GMT (son’s birth year)

Hi guys!

To say the least this has been an amazing year with the birth of our son (first boy) and landing a new dream job.

My incredible AD called me with my grail watch, the BLRO, the 3.5yr wait was worth it and ended up being perfect timing!

I would like to engrave my son’s birthdate since it will be passed to him one day. I want to make the watch even more special.

Do you guys have any ideas or see anything cool for birth year watches?

Thanks guys!

I got a BLRO for my daughter’s birth year (2021). Also got my wife a dj. Hers will get engraved with initials and dob. Mine BLRO is getting left as is.

Best to buy another case back have that one engraved, then he could switch between original and engraved.

Congrats on both! Good luck on deciding what to engrave but either way it will be special.

I’d put his initials and dob on the back. Now that you mention it I may do the same for mine

Nice idea. Never mind the case back, can be easily refinished if ever needed.

Go for a hand engraving which looks so much better compared to the run of the mill laser or fixed machine templates

I would wait on engraving to see if he actually wants a watch at some point in the future.

I bought my first Rolex the day my granddaughter was born. I engraved my initials and her birth date on the back. It will be hers someday and hopefully she smiles everytime she looks at the engraving on her Submariner.

First, congratulations on the birth of your son.

If you want to engrave it, what about something simple like: “Love Dad” or “For My Boy”

I’d buy a replacement case back and have that one engraved.

Birthdate and first name on the back.

Do it now and you will have a loving used heirloom with a story to pass down. It's the story that makes the gift special.

If, when the time comes, it doesn't have the same appeal to him, get yourself a new case back and put the engraved one in a shadowbox frame for the wall.

Ding ding ding.

Has this ever worked out for anyone before? I just wouldn’t hedge my bets on an 18 year old liking watches and specifically one from 18 years ago.

It’s alright to admit you brought it for yourself and will hand it down if he wants it lol

Hey guys thanks for all the input. I probably wasn’t super clear with my original post, but I did buy the watch for myself, but wanted to mark my favorite watch with such a special day as my son was born this year (birth year watch).. I think it’ll be cool to have it engraved making my “grail” watch even more special and eventually pass to him way down the road (no particular age or milestone).

Thank you guys for all the input!
