Yachtmaster 42 owners

So I’m a bigger guy and I like a bigger watch. I feel like my 16610 looks and feels dainty on my wrist. That being said my SA knows that I’m into watches that are +40 mm. When we were visiting the other day he mentioned that he thought the yachtmaster 42 in WG would be “the perfect watch for me” and he asked if I would like to add it to my wish list, to which I obliged. I have tried on the WG Daytona on oysterflex and really liked it (besides the smaller dimensions of the case). The weight of the watch and the bracelet work well together IMO. I’ve never seen the YM 42 in a display case or in the wild so while I agree that it does seem to be a good fit on paper, I would like to see how they wear. Please feel free to post pics and share your experiences with the watch. I feel like these watches are obviously some of the least popular in the catalog which is a plus for me, as I hate wearing the same watch as everyone else. How often, if ever, are the rest of you spotting these watches in the wild? Thanks in advance and happy hump day!

Only oysterflex yachtmaster I have seen in the wild was a RG 40 a couple years ago. It caught my eye from about 15 feet away which I found surprising for a watch not on a bracelet. The WG 42 looks amazing in pictures and I prefer it over the RG.

Any yachtmaster in general I have only seen a handful of times.

Sounds like the salesman did a great job on you with the “it’s perfect for you line” lol, only you will know that for sure. Everyone Has their own taste, my personal opinion on it is that it’s very expensive for what you get for your money, Chuck in a few k and you get a full bracelet. However that may not be what you want. I also think it’s quite boring (prefer the RG version). It’s definitely one you won’t see around too much though, actually I very rarely see any Rolexes myself at all where I live, and it definitely fits your criteria for not wanting the same watch as everybody else.

Its the perfect watch in almost all regards. I'm 6'4" 235 so the size is perfect for me. Love the heft of the WG, the oysterflex is a masterpiece, dial is easy to read yet stealth. The clasp is a work of art. Its my daily and a watch that like you I got on a whim and it became my favorite

I’ve never seen one in person but I too have admired from afar….. in pictures the maxi sized hour markers seem noticeably larger than on the subs and the fatter hour hand on the 42mm version is a design choice I’d like to see in-person. The blacked out bezel and oyster flex strap/ bracelet is a look I’m really warming to.
Here’s a pic from the internet that captures the watch well.
Good luck with your search

….Save the drama - I’m just here for the photos….

I’m 245lbs and the 42 is perfect. I have only seen a Daytona oysterflex. I personally like having a piece that is not everywhere. Fly under the radar, I’m not trying to be flashy. Only critique is no end links. Why?!?!?

Agree! Ever since Anthony mentioned it I am bothered by it. The YM deserves endlinks imo.

Just a thought (hear me out).

Have you tried on an OP41 yet?

Regular people regularly complain the dial is too big on these but there's an upside to that. I'm 6'7", 'only' 19-20cm wrist, love the fit and look of the OP41. Lebron James is a fan too.

Also consider SkyDweller and SeaDweller. I think the 22mm lug width on these two really helps the proportions on a bigger wrist. Steel for SkyDweller but for SeaDweller at least try on a TT 126603.

Consider wearing an Oysterflex piece in the shop for a while if you can. I did so with a YG SkyDweller and couldn't get on with the bracelet at all. I was kind of expeciting the fins and rubber to hold it in place better but found I had to clamp it down too much for my liking to stop a top-heavy PM piece from flopping around. YM is flatter than SkyD but just a caution.

The flat black bezel insert and lack of end links is what keeps it low key. I love the dresses down look.

I love this watch. It’s so comfortable and the WG feels amazing.

Love this piece - actually prefer this without end-links - I'd be sorely tempted if it was priced a little lower.

@Mr.GL

What face is that on your YM? I thought the dials were gloss black but yours looks different or is it the lighting?

A picture of your 16610 on wrist would help to visualize. Perhaps a DSDD could be something you would like

Not a huge fan of the OP41, something about the smooth bezel that just doesn’t do it for me. I already own a DSSD and the SkyD is my grail and hope to own it eventually but I want the blue dial so the wait is taking quite a while. I think the SkyD is the perfect size for me.

This is absolutely gorgeous, I told the AD if I’m going to consider buying this watch I would want the falcon dial. He said Rolex is producing them in very small numbers. Can you tell me how does the dial play with direct sunlight? Also, what was the circumstances of you purchasing this piece? Did you specifically request this watch/dial configuration?

I have both the white gold YM42 and white gold daytona on oysterflex. Both are incredible watches and fly under the radar. I'm 6'2" and 230 for context. If I had to choose one it would be the YM42. Personally, the bidirectional bezel is more functional for my life than a chrono. The proportions work a bit better and I LOVE the additional adjustability at the clasp. Can't go wrong with either though.
