Living with one GRAIL watch ?
OK... so let me ask you this. If you could have your GRAIL watch ?
(and I am talking to those who have a rabid desire to own that one GRAIL watch) Could you be a one watch person then? Lets just say it could be ANYTHING you wanted.. BUT... it HAS to be your GRAIL ! Like finding that one person in your life that completes you. ( i know... that sounds cheesy but you know what i mean) OR... are you the person that has to have alot of different watches because thats just YOU. Just wondering because I am having a moment with this issue and if I do it... It won't be cheap... BUT it will be my ABSOLUTE GRAIL... and I will be DONE.... BECAUSE... I'll be living the dream. LOL So... I am thinkin about it because life is short. What say you? |

My
“Grail” Is a patek minute repeater. Not happening any time soon, considering it costs about milllion pounds. But it would not be a one watch. |

Short answer, no. I did try though. Thing is, I cannot strap on my grail on all occasions. When I am doing sports or physical activity, its just inappropriate. Therefore, at the very least, two pieces.

I don’t believe in grail watches, so for me the answer is no.

I got my grail this year. I am very happy with the decision and feel fortunate to have been allocated it…

I did this at the beginning of the year. I had several Rolexes from daytona panda, subs and seadweller and decided to sell everything at the peak to buy at the peak grey the GMT meteorite. Because i didn’t stand a change of buying that at retail and i bought it in februari, i paid 100k for it. Way too much of course but it was the watch i wanted from the day it released. I have it now for about 8 months as a daily. Still love the watch of course. BUT it starts to itch again to look for new watches. The feeling when you buy your grail never lasts. And after that honeymoon period it all depends on what kind of person you are if you will regret it or how your financial situation is if you can and are willing to scratch the new itch also. :p

Living with one GRAIL watch ?
I wanted my 16613LB for 24 yrs. Finally decided it was time to get it two and a half years ago. In that time I’ve realized I could swing a 16618 and it’s grown on me. I always liked the idea of a full gold watch but quite realistically didn’t even think I’d own the 16613, so never even thought a solid gold watch would be attainable or a dream worth having.
My watch is now away at service and it has really hit me, I want another Rolex (if it’s only to have a spare when either is in for service)! I’m sure when I get the 16618 I will start liking something else. Time will tell. Best of luck with your decision and enjoying your watch!! Sent from my Apple privacy invasion product |

If you attain this grail, once you get used to it, it potentially won't make you as happy as you thought. Like living in a big house when you didn't live in one growing up. Once you get used to it, it's just "home".
Me personally when it comes to collecting, I do have a grail (ALS Zeitwerk Minute Repeater) that is totally out of reach from a practical sense. I've already hit the ceiling on what I would be willing to spend on a single piece and the ALS is lightyears above that. It will stay a dream, which is partly the point, I think. In my real world, there are 2 pieces (16040M/16570 polar) that speak to my taste, personality and time in my life when I lusted for them, attained them, and they are in my collection to stay. The others may at some point rotate out. If your grail is more within reach (with a DD in your collection, I'm sure it is) and you have no emotional attachment to anything else, I'd say go for it. You are right, life is way too short. So I guess I went a bit full circle on this one. |

I don’t think I am a one watch guy. So getting a grail and having just one watch wouldn’t work for me.

I couldn't. I'd be too nervous wearing one of my grails daily in NYC.

The issue is that if it’s really a special watch it loses some of that when you wear it all the time. I think you’d like to reserve the special watch for special occasions. It should be a treat to wear it.

The answer lies with who you are, and in this hobby, you have to know who you are. (It probably wouldn't hurt in life, either. )
I know, for example, I couldn't live with one watch, even if it was a grail...not to mention the fact once you get it, it no longer carries that status. No, these days, I've come to understand, for me anyway, my collection is the "grail." Because I know it will never be perfect, but the fun of it lies in the shaping of it, the thinning and the adding. |

I was almost pleased to see the grail price disappear upwards in all the hype to the point it was way more than I would ever pay. That made the decision not to buy one easy.
Prices are coming down fast and it’s now more than I should pay. But. I could do it which makes it dangerous to look it! I’d be happy with it for a while - maybe a year, maybe 3. Then I’d tell myself it was already spent money by that point and I could buy again - probably start picking up everyday watches convincing myself they are comparatively cheap and it would start all over again… |

I don't really know how often I'd wear my grail. It wouldn't be stored in a box at the bank or in a safe or anything, I just don't know that I'd actually wear it. It'd likely be more like a desk ornament. So...no, I couldn't be a 1-watcher.

In their own way, my watches are all the Grails!
But if you like, my Grail is this Daytona. However, I cannot deprive myself of the other watches, just like I do with the women. |

Sky-dweller for me. Robust, reliable and useful.
Love the uniquely Rolex way of setting the watch too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

This^.
There is no grail, it's an illusion. Once you get it, there'll always be the next piece looming on the horizon, ready to strike. There's no exit watch. Thus you could very well carry on adding all sorts of watches despite your grail. You wake up one day and you find it too heavy, not rugged, you don't like the attention from people, you don't feel safe on the street with it, scratches annoy you, you miss your good old beaters and not so beaters etc etc. Also, no matter how great the grail is, you're not gonna want to wear it every day in any situation. You know what it's like in this hobby, grass is always greener with the next watch on the wrist. |

I feel like most grail watches wont be appropriate to wear in many situations (unless its a steel Rolex then that would work) so no I wouldnt have a 1 watch collection.
Plus why would I want to lose my Seiko / Casio beater watches that I enjoy so much? |

If 95% of budget went to one grail, I found a second watch to be very useful to switch on/off making the 'grail' a sustainable near daily wearer.

Living with one GRAIL watch ?
No. I could live with 2 or 3 watches, but 4 is ideal for me.
Plus, my definition of a grail watch is something that’s not obtainable anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I envy the person who's happy with getting "the grail". I feel like I'm always moving that goal post.

For me a DD40 is my grail piece. If I had one I really couldn't have it as a one-and-only simply because there will be situations where wearing a $40K solid gold Rolex simply won't work. I probably wouldn't wear it in certain high crime areas, wouldn't wear it at certain casual spots like the beach, and other situations like that. So no, I would always need 2 or 3 watches at a minimum.

The latter for me.
I’ve toyed at times with consolidating pretty significantly, but I don’t have a single target that’s the be all and end all for me, so no thanks on going with one only. Plus, I still like the variety. |

For me the definition of a grail a super difficult, almost impossible to obtain and at the same time very expensive piece.
If so, how can that be one and done watch. Surely won't be appropriate to wear it every day. As such I have decided to move from grail to grail. I achieve the first, then I move on to the next and so on, and every time I raise the bar. |

In a perfect world, my grail (5740) would be the only watch I would need. In reality, however, it wouldn't work. There are safety concerns, durability concerns, long service times, etc. At minimum, I would want a two watch collection, with the second watch being a more durable and discreet option
