Rolex Cologne, as usual Rolex (bad) service

Walked into Rolex boutique in Cologne, wanted to try Sub Date 41, they have 2 tone, Bluesy n Smurf, on display as exhibitions only, but the SA kept saying they don’t have Sub in SS, twice, I can tell she didn’t wanna waste her time, so I just walked out n crossed to Wempe.
Treated nicely, even though they didn’t have any Rolex ready, but the SA is so professional, let us try a couple Panerai n a Patek, walked out with 1.

How is it bad service if you wanted to try on a watch they didn’t have? Congrats on the entry-level Panerai, you really showed her.

Panerai is such a cool watch. I’ve had my 104 since 2006 and it’s still one of the best watches I’ve owned. No reason for anyone to ignore you or act like you are wasting your time. Sounds like a case of bad management or bad people skills! Congrats on the Panerai!!

I agree with you, but entry-level is a stupid term to apply to a watch.

Your condescension is as bad as the OPs assessment of the service at the Rolex store.

Agreed. My “entry level” OP has become one of my favorites in 35 years of buying nice watches. Not to mention but to the world at large spending $6150 on any watch is insane.

I love the entry level OP as well. Such a great simple clean design with only what is needed.

Fair enough; that was unkind and apologies from someone who forgot he owns a 111!

I’m just sick of the constant outrage here and need for people to slam a dealer for the most meaningless perceived slight. Guy wants to try on a watch they don’t have, so it’s bad service? Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past three years you’d know that AD’s are short on inventory. It’s not their fault, and it’s not like she pulled one out of the back to show it to someone else.

I know I’m uncultured, but I sincerely thought Rolex had churned out a fragrance. Can’t even begin to imagine what it would smell like…

Anyway

I guess I’m uncultured too, Nathan! For whatever reason (maybe the colors) I think of Polo.

Folks really need to reset their expectations when it comes to walking into ADs these days.

It’s a cool the OP picked up a cool watch. However, that just shows me it was an impulse buy. Done it myself. Hopefully when the OP looks at it in a week, they are just as happy.

Remember also the Rolex boutique did not have other brands for you to try on as did Wempe which may have made the Wempe experience much more enjoyable.
The shortages are touch on SAs having little to show or sell to the walk-in customer. Congratulations on the Pam.

Well, for some TRFers , they need to read what I wrote, I went to the AD with the intention just to try 41 Sub, not to buy one, cos I’m fully aware of the shortages of popular models. My point is, at least she should offer me to try other exibition pieces that they have, 2 tone Sub is a 41, n they have it on display!!!
I luv watches, still in luv with my DUE, also with my Tudors. :)
Sorry, no such thing as buyer’s remorse

You could have just asked to try on the TT Sub.

OP - you did not make your point very clearly. Did you ask to try on the other Subs that were on hand? Did the SA deny your request? Was that the extent of your exchange with the sales associate, 90 seconds worth? Is that what earned them a ‘bad service’ posting on a website?

I wonder what the sales associate had to say to her colleagues about the customer that just walked out the door.

Fully agreed, but if u were the owner/ SA, wouldn’t u took initiative to offer customers other merchandise to try on that kinda similar model?
Maybe not, LoL.

I've seen pictures of customers receiving them as gifts, always wondered what they smell like.

Here's what I've gathered, let me know if I've missing something:

1 You walked into an AD (in Germany, a country which I've lived and prides itself on efficiency in all aspects of life) and asked to try on a Sub41
2 SA responds they don't have a SS Sub, as it would be what 90%+ (rough estimate) of purchasers are wanting, and an accurate assumption as it's also what you were seeking
3 You have knowledge that a TT and PM Sub are the case, and instead of simply replying 'could I try on the TT or PM instead?', you decided to get angry and cross the road to another dealer
4 Have now taken time to make a post complaining of the service at said AD

Congratulations on the new Panerai and voting with your wallet.

I think what the OP means is that her attitude towards him gave an indication that she is not interested to spend time with her. It would have annoyed me as well. Nothing wrong with OP giving negative review.

I think it is the other way around. From the post I gather that it was the sales associate who was talking as if she owns rolex. They way you speak says a lot about how interested you are in providing service and is the difference between good and bad service.

Nothing wrong with the annoyance op is feeling.

Panerai is a very nice watch and still good business for ADs otherwise they wouldnt have stocked them.

Op is simply pointing about the difference between good and bad customer service. Speaking to your customers politely and showing interest can go a long way.
