Icon7 The collection expands

Frist post, so hello to you all! Found this forum a while back and did some browsing, mainly due to my interest in watches in general. Never thought I would be in the financial position to acquire one of these amazing timepieces, let alone being able to build a collection.

I have to say that by accident I found an amazing SA at a AD in my country. When on holiday with my family I stopped by just out of curiosity. It's the main dealer in my country and they are also a Patek Phillipe boutique. I got a great connection with the SA and expressed my interest in a 37mm rose-gold YM on the Oysterflex. He mentioned it was a very difficult watch to come by in general, the PM versions even more so and especially the 37mm versions. After a long chat about everything watch related he said he did have one I was able to buy. He mentioned he tries to find the right person for the watches they have. As we all know, supply is not the issue, it's demand, so this policy atleast assures the watches land with the right people. In short, I was able to walk out with my first ever Rolex and I couldn't be more happy!!

Whilst I adore my YM, I found it hard to wear everyday, especially to work. My colleagues are no watch enthousiasts, but a rose-gold timepiece really stands out, no matter how you look at it. So, the quest for a more casual every-day piece started. I looked at OP's, DJ's in a lot of different configurations. I didn't really like the plain colour OP's (silver, black, dark-blue), and whilst the more exotic colours (tiffany, green, pink) were more to my taste, they didn't really fit the 'undercover' profile I was going for. I love the DJ, but find my right configuration (36MM fluted, oyster, Palm motive), is kind of a challenge. So, I asked my SA if the Explorer 1 was an option. He said the TT was readily available and despite I really liked that watch in person, I didn't want gold on an everyday watch. I also wanted to stay true to the real herritage of the Explorer, so the steel version became my order! I put down a deposit of $1000 and delivery time was expected to be between 3 and 6 months. 4 months later, I got an e-mail saying it had arrived and was ready for pickup. The Explorer is an awesome watch and I love to start wearing it everyday and make memories with it.

When picking up my new watch, my SA wanted to show me a special DD, again, only available to the right person. 36mm platinum, pearle dial with diamond hour markers. Man what a great piece! I know not everyone likes diamonds, but when it's subtle, it really tickles me. My watchbox still has room for 1 more watch, so maybe the next one will be a day-date. All in all, it was a great experiece with two watch guys sharing their passion and interest.

I love my journey so far - building a relation with my AD and creating collection that truely reflects my taste. Not planning to sell anything anytime soon. Thanks for taking your time to read and wear all your watches in good health :)

PS: Sorry for the large pictures.

Looking great so far! Congratulations on those two! The DD would round out your collection nicely for sure.

Good to see the midsize YM get some love here. And big fan of that configuration - probably my favorite RG watch in the Rolex lineup.

This is also a great illustration about how size can be deceiving: Side by side in the watch box, the Explorer actually looks bigger, due to its larger dial, despite being 1mm smaller.

Thanks for your comment and nice to see someone who also loves the midsize! I fully agree. The 37mm YM wears very similar to the Explorer and for smaller wrist sizes it's actually a perfect size.

Yes, it’s one thing I really like about Rolex: it’s among the last luxury watch companies to offer true midsize watches that are completely gender-neutral. Yes, plenty of 33-37mm pieces out there, but the majority have very feminine styling in terms of use of colors and materials.

Absolutely! My friends steer clear from anything PM or diamond set, but I'm a bit of a sucker for a crazy diamond set piece. That platinum DD really ticked all my boxes :)

Congrats, two very nice pieces.
I love stories when people are able to acquire the watches they want in a seemingly normal way where one goes to a retailer, asks for what they want and acquire it then, soon or in due time without drama. A lot of the interactions shared here when people visit an AD drip with desperation, resentment, frenzy, FOMO and anger. If I felt those emotions while shopping for anything, it would kill the enjoyment of owning it.

Thanks so much for your comment. I agree that the flair of owning a watch continues way past the initial purchase moment. Hopefully the recent turn in market conditions helps watch enthousiasts get the watches they want.
