Anyone else realize they have a strong preference for sunburst dials?
I have come to realize I may be a sunburst-only dial type of guy.
I had the panda Daytona, Pepsi, Sub LN, and currently have a two tone CHNR. Right now I like the CHNR the most out of the four because it does have the most visually interesting elements to me. However I still seemingly find myself wearing my sunburst dial watches more such as rhodium YM, the Hulk, sunburst Daytona, blue Overseas, etc. I guess the way the dial plays with the light just does it for me, and dials that are plain black or plain white, even on the Panda with the black circles... just aren't as visually stimulating. It really seems like my collection may eventually be sunburst only. Anyone else find themselves in the same situation? |

Just picked up a bluesy and I have a few other black dial Rolex as well. I know exactly what you are talking about.

I agree, depending on the colour of the sunburst dial. The TT blue Sub has been a revelation to me, whereas the Hulk was an abomination under a strong light.

I do too but it has never come in my desired Explorer configuration. Closest were the 116000 Oyster Perpetuals but they lacked safety clasps.

I do like sunburst finish on dials but I think color is an additional criteria that’s important. I don’t care for black, grey, or white

I need variety.
Sunburst dials are fantastic indeed, but there’s nothing like a piano black Rolex dial, or a matt black Speedmaster dial IMO. |

I am the complete opposite. None of my sunburst dials stuck with me. Didn’t like them when in sunlight, only when they looked dark. I guess I am boring, but I like consistency in the color watch I select. I get it though, even at times for me they looked amazing!

I like sunburst as much as I like a plain black dial, but there are other interesting dials as well, like the blasted platinum finish on the old Yacht Masters and I have an Ivory dial which has a bit of sparkle in bright sunlight.
Flat dials, apart from black, really aren’t my thing. |
