what do panerai fans think of rolex challenger?

don't think the deep sea challenger is so unbearable, it's made of titanium so it should be lighter than a ss submariner.

Great watch and one that will lead to other titanium watches from Rolex. I would think that we would see a model or two going forward in the Yacht-Master, Submariner, Explorer II and Explorer. This watch is a look at me and what we can do from Rolex. I look forward to seeing one in person. Doubt I would buy one but stranger things have happened.

Rolex follows their own slow methodical cadence. From an industry standpoint it shows Rolex follows other brands with change. Rolex is now tinkering with titanium which is 10+ years behind everyone else. When Rolex does give the nod to these changes, it usually means they are now a industry standard and not a experimental material.

As much as I love Rolex, this is what separates their conservative ideology with Panerai’s cutting edge use of materials on their classic designs. Panerai could be considered a more interesting brand to own. Rolex is a more conservative, classic brand to own.

I love the deepsea challenge. It’s purposeful. It’s unique. Extreme. Strictly collectors item for collectors with deep pockets to apply only.

Lots of nay.. but Rolex no care. That’s what I love about Rolex.

Remember when everyone doing blue n Rolex throw in the q ball with green (hulk) and anniversary green DayDate.. look at what PP AP and all the other brands are doing today.

The Rolex DSC makes MUCH MORE sense than the moon phase Panerai diver with 50m water resistant.. talk about Panerai’s most important.. the DNA ……. LOL WTF

Wish Panerai would get inspired and drop the press-on casebacks and other lame compromises.

Still love my old Panerai.

I have no desire to wear a watch that is half as thick as it is wide. Seems ridiculous to me, but I understand it's more about the spec. battle between brands.

I like that it's made of titanium, that's about it. I don't find any thing that appeals to me from a design and wearing standpoint, but no doubt some will love it. To each their own & I hope they're successful and bring Ti to other lines.

“Battle between brands” maybe true for Omega (Ultra Deep) but for Rolex, it is just carrying on its legacy since it’s experimental diver back in January 1960 setting world record 10,908m dive.

This is Rolex *DNA* going back to its root.. that’s 62 years history… and not only breaking its own record, but making it wearable too.. that is just mind blowing to be honest.

I just saw comparison photos with the regular sized DSSD and the new one is ridiculous. I believe it would make a Pam 47mm look fairly small. I don’t think it’s really wearable.

DSC is more inline comparison with PAM341 aka Schwarzenegger’s 60mm watch.

DSC looks huge to me. Will go to Boutique and take a look. My 372 is my limit in size. $26k for a occasional wear is a bit much.

So to me it is interesting, but not at $26K. However I am not the target market.

I have a 50MM U-Boat and 48MM Breitling that I wear often. The DAC looks even bigger, I want to see in person.

The one thing I don’t like about is the ring with all the writing.

I am glad to see Rolex stepping out and trying something new.

However, I just started reading about Panerai and so far I am impressed. May have to join the club!

If Rolex would make the current 126660 DSSD in titanium, I think this would be my perfect watch. A much lighter DSSD with times down bling factor. The ultimate.
