New Submariner date running slow

My new Submariner date is about a year old. It seems to be running 5 minutes slow. I set the time and manually wound the watch. Any other ideas before I take it in to my local AD?

5 mins slow over what period? A day? A week? A month?

1 year old is not considered new. It is considered used. Send to rsc for them to check as it is still within the warranty period.

If it loses 5 minutes every day then, indeed, it should be looked at.

If you checked it with a cell phone or computer that updates from whatever source it sees, then you should do a few more checks.

The latest movements are so finely machined that these close tolerances can run slow from lack of lubrication. This is covered by the warranty.

Did you have any chance to have your watch to close magnetic stuff?
If you did, then possible to slow down 5 minutes. It is easy to fix it...

An hour slow in a day? Yes that's going to need an RSC intervention to resolve, as it won't get better on its own.

It's unlikely to be caused by magnetism as that causes the coils of the hairspring to stick together, resulting in an effectively shorter hairspring and therefore a faster beat rate - hence making the watch speed up dramatically, not slow down. Slowing dramatically is usually caused by some sort of friction issue, or a problem with the regulator.

Any watch which runs an hour slow per day needs to be serviced. I would not let it run being that much off and just send it in immediately. As suggested, have it checked for magnetism but with the new alloys magnetism is not the issue it once was. You can roughly do it yourself, just run a compass near it and see if the needle moves.

I dropped it off at the AD and they are sending it in for service. Now wearing my trusty Omega SMP Quartz (Brosnan Bond watch) as it could be January until I get the Sub back. Thanks for the responses!

AD sales rep said to not expect it back until January due to the repair center being closed for a week for Christmas. Uggh!
