My AD said....

I thought maybe we can use this thread for comments we hear from our AD!

Anyway I was at the mall today and asked aboutt he TT GMT Anniv. They will call on Monday and see what the deal is. I do not want to have to pay more for it! They sensed my frustration. But that is Monday....

For today an Sunday only they have a slew of estate Rolexes for sale. In the bunch is a brand new TT Daytona with silver face for $9000. Apparently it is a repossession, it has the new band that all the sports watches will soon have. They even offered me 20 months at 0% interest. Sooooo tempting! I can sleep on it, if I can sleep.

I asked about other watches and the upcomng price hike. The AD said that they cannot discuss the numbers but they have the new prices and a lot of people are going to be very upset. Apparently this is not a tiny hike that no one will notice, this is a jump that will reverberate in the market.

One tidbit they told me is that Japan and China have a huge demand for the stainless steel models. Once dealers run out of this year's allocation of SS models they will be very hard to get due to other demands worldwide for them. So you can expect SS watches to have value in and of themselves and no longer be the cheap "I cannot afford gold" model. I actually like the SS myself!

So, post here what your AD has said to you. Together we can put the big puzzle together.

my AD told me a big price hike as well. He's got 7 huge stores & says prices are taking a bigger than usual jump. He didn't say what day or how much exactly, but he said October will be the month.

He also thinks the LV may be coming to a close. He heard a rumor that early 'Z' series may be the end for them. Who knows though, i've been hearing that for a while.

I have heard two things from my "wonderful" AD. I got really lucky to build a relationship with such a great guy.

1. The price increase is due around Oct 15.

2. He also said there is a good chance I'll be buying another Rolex from him
VERY soon.

A used TT Daytona @ $9000 does not sound that good. I just bought a new one from an AD for not much more than that.

Hello everyone,

I've been out from posting at the forum for several months, but I'm back.

Anyway, I'll be getting a TT Blue Sub this week with my local AD and after calling them today, to confirm the deal, they told me that the price increase will be Oct 1st. (going from $7,100 to something between $7,500-7,800). They also reported that this increase will be more than the previous one (occurred more than a year ago)...Also offered 20 months without interest or 5 months with no payment.

Lol-x and I went to Melbourne's Hour Glass a few weeks ago, and the fellow there said, "Is there a price hike? I thought I would have heard about it by now". Ah well, we're going to have to see, I suppose.

Agreed, James. There seems to be no news about any price hike in our part of the world!!

I asked about the price hike in a local AD in Melbourne, the salesguy was like 'I dunno' and then another one heard me mention it... he whispered to me that yes it was coming but that was the only info he gave! Typical eh....

Once the hike occurs, all the local vintage sellers will probably up their prices too... grrrrrrrrr

As I had posted a little while ago, my patient that works for an AD stated that last week the Rolex rep was in his store and informed him that the price increase was October 1st. The only watch I asked about was the ss sub date and he told me it was going to be $5100+.

In a post that I posted earlier this week regarding my visit to the AD and seeing the gold GMT II, I spoke with the manager of the store and he also confirmed the October 1st price increase and said the ss sub price was going to be about $5000-5100.

So, I heard the news twice in one week, so I guess we'll find out in the good ol' U.S.A. in one week if the rumors are correct.

In the interim, if you're in the market for a new Rolex it MAY be a wise idea to purchase one this week if you think there may be some credibility to the rumor.

Tell the missus that with the impending price hike you can fly both of you to Hawaii, have a vacation, buy the watch, get home, watch the price hike take efect, and you will have saved all that money, like a free vacation!

Just make sure she does not counter with wants like a free kitchen, a free room addition, etc.

Just called my AD to see what's going on with the white dial Daytona I'm getting any day now. He said it's not in yet but still has 2 black dials in for certain customers.

I really hope my white dial comes in before the price hike

Spencer,

If you've already given your AD an advance for the white dial one, and he's given you a receipt in turn stating the advance you paid, the actual price of the watch and the balance pending, then that is a kinda contract between you and your dealer.

He has to abide by that contract and give you the new watch at the stipulated pending balance price left on the receipt.

JJ

There was discussion about this a short time back. I called my AD and asked, to be sure. They stated that if monies were placed as a deposit on a watch IN STOCK they would have to honor the price agreed upon initially. But, if the watch was not in stock at the time of deposit and the price changed prior to the AD receiving said watch they would not be obligated to adhere to the initial price, especially if the AD themselves had to pay more for the stock once it arrived. However, they would be obligated to return the deposit in full if the customer no longer wished to make the purchase under the terms of the new price.

Interesting info CJ.

JJ, I have not placed a deposit on the watch yet since he said as soon as it comes in it's mine. Of course if paying for it now assured me that current price and not the "new" price, then I'd do it.

The owner of the AD (he's the one I deal with) is out on Sun/Mon, so I'll call Tuesday to see if I can "lock" the price right now.

Saw my AD again today. Price increase is as such:
Stainless steel models: 12%
Two toned models: 10%
Solid Gold and Platinum models: 4%

Also they told me if you like the pepsi dial on the GMT, grab it now. They are going to do away with the red/blue and red/black dials because they fade. When these sell, that's it.

Hi Spencer,
I doubt your AD will accept a down payment towards a SS white face Daytona...IMHO. but...give a try
