What preowned watches tend to hold decent value when bought used?
Sort of a random question, but curious if there are any watches that take the initial depreciation hit, but then stay relatively flat in the used market. I've bought several new, that usually take a 30-50%+ hit in the first year, so looking to try out a couple of used ones. Understand that even used, they will take a bit of a hit, but ok with a little bit. Not trying to guess which ones are going to go up in value, or make money. I think subs and probably any Rolex might fit the bill, but any others?

Agree about the Speedie.
My Omega Speedmaster FOIS has performed surprisingly well if you pay attention to those things. Turns out a straight-lug ~39mm Speedie that isn’t a 321 is quite sought-after. |

That was one of the ones that I was looking at. There are so many variances, are there specific ones to avoid or look for? This probably doesn't fit the bill since it is not the "traditional" one, but I really dig the Dark Side of the Moon.

+1 Speedy. Look at the choices and get the one YOU love. My wife 'insisted' i get this version after the AD offered it. Great timepiece and verrrrrry comfortable bracelet too. One of, if not the, most comfortable. Have you tried one on yet?

When you look on MODA people are selling these for 4.000 usd. Whatever you see on Chrono at 5.6k usd or higher is unrealistic. |

The list wasn’t the purchase price when these were readily available. I bought from a grey, brand new, for €3k.

In my experience, most Omega, Tudor and Grand Seiko models will hold up pretty well if purchased for the right pre-owned price. Let the first owner take the depreciation hit and then you'll be able to purchase, enjoy for a while, then sell for a pretty negligible loss.
That being said, some large reputable ADs charge excessively high prices for pre-owned models that would still carry a significant amount of depreciation. I'd recommend buying from pieces with factory warranty intact from established sellers on forums rather than from a bigger name store with a big markup. |

Don’t most watches hold their own after the first hit? Unless of course a real dog.
The trick is to buy at the right price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Agree with what others have posted - Speedys and Subs are pretty consistent. Some Tudors as well- my Pelagos is listing for a bit less than what I paid back when it was first released.
That said, I suggest you take a look at Watch Charts and Chrono24. They show historical trending prices etc. I reference them to determine whether I’m getting a fair market price, and whether to buy new or used. |

Any pre-owned manual wind Panerai around $3k. Ton of fun, no worries for power reserve/servicing cost and great on rubber strap for skiing or summer swimming :-). If you need to sell, your downside is probably limited to a few hundred bucks.

I've bought IWC, Breguet, Blancpain, Omega, Sinn, GS pre owned at good prices- and those prices have remained more or less stable in the long term, maybe up a couple of hundred or down a couple depending on the week,
