I am unaware of the tolerences Rolex uses in their manufacturing. But, has anybody ever checked their watch case? Just for chuckles I measured my Yachtmaster case with my machinist vernier caliper, in three axis and came up with 42mm (actually 42 and a skosh - just a hairs width over 42)

And this is a 126621 Yachmaster that is spec'd out at 40mm. I wouldn't have thought it'd be that far out. As I posted, just a curiosity.

Pretty sure they just round up or down when naming a case size. And we also don't know to where they measure. I saw an article somewhere when the new "41mm" Sub came out that the old "40mm" measured 40.3mm and the new one 40.8 or something like that.

I imagine their manufacturing tolerances are astonishingly accurate.

The marketing, labelling, hype, press views and public opinion less so. FWIW, I’m wearing a 42mm Exp II as I type this and the main view on most forums is it’s a big watch. I’m actually astounded how neat it is due to the relatively thin case and wrist hugging profile. Feels smaller than 40/41mm I’ve had from other manufacturers.

Easier said than done these days but I’d ignore the social media photos and press and try on the ones that appeal - the numbers don’t tell you how they feel and look.

I’d second that on the Exp 2 - I’ve not measured myself, but note that the actual measurement of the bezel diameter is reported elsewhere as 41.4 mm.
