Which Dial is popular in the YG DD 40?

Hi,

I am considering the purchase of a YG DD 40 next year if certain things at my end go well. I am torn between whether to opt for a White Dial w/ Roman numerals or the Black Dial w/ diamond baguettes.

The purchase is to mark a special moment in my life and the watch to me is symbolic. With that logic, I would easily choose the black dial w/ diamond baguettes, however, a part of me also feels that my tastes would evolve over time and I may trade it for another Day Date or some other PM watch in the future. In that respect, the white dial w/ roman numerals seems to be a safer bet.

I guess I am trying to find a middle ground. If I knew there was a possibility of getting the YG DD 40 with the Green Dial, it would have been a no-brainer because that's what I would have chosen.

Given all this, I was wondering between the white dial w/Romans and the black dial w/ baguette diamonds, which one is popular?

Neither is popular the way a GMT or Sub is popular. Buy what you want. White is classy, black is a little more "f off"

If you really want a choice that will age gracefully over the years, go with a 36mm.

I don’t know about popular I mean that’s relative.

I bought this one today and I can’t stop staring at it,
I would suggest to just buy the one you like more now and not worry about what you may like better in the future. You can trade or dial swap through RSC.

I'll preface this by saying I had my name on a list for that exact config....black with baguettes, it was just more of a "that's right..it's also got diamonds on it" attitude to it. Gorgeous piece, JSolution just posted his incoming thread, but subtle isn't a word I would use to describe it. (not saying that any YG Day-Date is "subtle" though...

Edit: he just posted above me

@JSolution, Is there a lot of bling when the light hits the baguette diamonds?

Both dials are classy. But the black w/diamonds is timeless.

There's definitely a list where I am....granted I switched configs, I'm 5 months in w/o a peep.
Well maybe not a list, but there is enough interest from other ppl for me not be able to immediately buy it.

Black dial pairs brilliantly to the YG DD

I wouldn’t worry so much about what’s “popular”…as others have already pointed out.

With that said, the black baguette is an absolute stunner.

Since you’re ok with Roman’s (deconstructed), I’d also suggest you look at the silver dial roman. It’s an absolute stunner as well.

Classic DD 40 White Dial of your first DD ever. Don’t do the 36mm

I would go with the black dial although not my choice if I were to add the DD40. I really dislike any dial with Roman numerals. I would not necessarily get baguettes either but today's dials are so limited. I prefer a silver dial on a DD but if they would have it batons rather than baguettes, I would get it.

White is bright and clean with the best legibility, a true classic Day-Date. You can always swap the dial down the road if your taste changes. I also have a black dial, both winners, any Day-Date is a winner!! Good Luck!!

Why not try the green? Have you asked your AD? If that’s what you like you could try to make it happen with the help of a benevolent AD…

The most sought after for YG Day-Date is new Green dial.

Black with baguettes hour markers is gorgeous, I would go with that.

Of your two choices…I’d go white dial.
Me personally….neither of those would be one of my choices.

I agree white with Romans is the "safest bet" and IMO will age the best and be a constant pleasure to wear. Some days just don't feel like black dial watches. White always suits. Sort of calming to the mind.

Voting for the white dial. In my opinion it’s even nicer than the green. The green on YG DD is just too odd for me.

A white dial looks stunning on a full YG watch. The “runner up” would be a champagne dial

I had a Roman champagne dial and to me it was just too much gold

I think the white breaks it up nicely, second choice would be silver dial for a YG DD 40
