Father in Law’s Rolex - Genuine or Fake?
Hello all,
I’m new to the forum and must admit I know only a little about watches, but because of that my Father in Law who doesn’t know how to use a computer has asked me to try and find out a little about his. If I remember correctly he got it a few decades ago. He works with cars in a scrapyard and if a car comes to him with stuff still inside he can keep it. I’ll just add some pictures, I guess my opinion of whether it is genuine or not is a bit irrelevant, but he thinks it’s real but it just didn’t sit right with me. There is some damage to the face watch, it’s missing the word Rolex on the face and also seems odd someone wouldn’t have come back and said I’ve lost my Rolex! |

He should have left that in the car.

Removing that from the car would have doubled the value of the car.
This year we seem to have fast forwarded from Boxing Day to April 1st. |

I guess you can tell from the replies thus far, it doesn’t sit right with others too.
No, it’s not a real Rolex. We don’t really go into more detail than that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Thank you for the replies everyone (I know they are tongue in cheek but I thought it wasn’t real but he wasn’t so sure)!
As I said I really know nothing. Is there anything specifically I can point out to him (or a few things) to show him it isn’t real? |

We don't go into details as mentioned above. That way, the thread doesn't turn into a coaching session on how to improve a fake. Although in this instance the fake could probably be improved by hitting it with a lump hammer.

I fully understand. Well as I said I do actually appreciate you all telling me, as even though it’s obvious to you all for someone completely uninitiated (myself and my father in law) it isn’t so blatantly obvious.
Ill break the news to him then. |

OMG! He has the ever-elusive "no-words" dial! And you thought Red Rolexes were rare!

Compare your photos with a genuine watch from the same era. Or explore YouTube for explanatory video comparisons. It should be easy enough. Unless there is a really good reason not to, the watch belongs in the trash can. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I would take it somewhere to have it looked at.
Besides the dial, I’m not seeing what everyone else seems to think is so obvious… Some parts look spot on to me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

When I tried to do some research myself it seemed the watch was fake but I did think the bracelet wasn’t so obviously fake? That was only from comparing pictures online.
Is that a common thing, for people to attach a face watch to a real bracelet to make it seem more real overall? Based on the other comments it sounds like this is so fake that that would be a waste of time and money? Any info is welcome, as I don’t want him throwing it all away if the bracelet could be real. |

Looks gen to me. Has a replaced aftermarket dial which is common with these watches.
I see an old beat up genuine datejust with the original engine turned bezel, original crown, original 62510 bracelet with some stretch, and a typical crappy aftermarket dial. Not sure why everyone is dismissing it so quickly. Shrugs. |

Thank you again everyone for the replies, it’s interesting the different opinions on it (and I have to say a little bewildering). |

Hopefully I can get some if I can open the back, may take a new days for the tool to arrive. Any video I found online or how to open without the correct tool just doesn’t work (lots of people say use a bouncy ball or something of that ilk).
It isn’t currently working and the crown seems to not want to turn, it does to change the date but that’s all. |
