PP 5227 vs ALS Saxonia Automatic

Hey, guys.

Been going back and worth between these two. Most likely would be wearing 3-4 days per week while working. Would buy pre-owned.

I’m leaning towards the 5227.

Current collection includes BLNR and ND Sub.

Appreciate your general thoughts. Any and all perspectives welcome!

Cheers and Happy New Year!

What’s causing you to lean toward Patek?

I really love both pieces.

I think the sculpted lugs and ivory/cream dial are pushing me more towards the 5227. I don’t want to disparage the Saxonia though. I do like the overall design language of the Saxonia.

The officer caseback is interesting too - I can see having an engraving done in the future. However, I have to give the Saxonia the edge when it comes to finishing - at least on these pieces.

Patek by a nose. That’s how I feel today anyway.

What say you?

I like both but I will choose 5227R in this case. As you have highlighted, the sculpted lugs, officer caseback and the ivory dial on the 5227 are lovely.

I’d go for the Patek out of those two.
I have owned a 40mm Saxonia thin and while it was beautiful the size was too large and the lack of small seconds just pushed it in to being too boring in the end for me.
Would you consider a third choice? The Vacheron Constantin Tradionnelle 82172 is simply the most beautiful dress watch!

VC makes amazing watches. I like the VC Traditionelle. However, I’d prefer an automatic. I intend to wear a few days each week so am targeting an automatic so I can grab and go. Thank you for the suggestion!

Anyone have any experience with the automatic Saxonia?

As a former LangeMatik owner; I'd go for the Lange. They excell at finish.

I'd go Lange; I personally find it a little more interesting, the finishing is fantastic, and the gold rotor with the platinum edge is art.

For the price of the 5227 you could have a Saxonia moon phase. Packs a lot of punch for the price.

Ahhh gents, tough to argue with you… The ALS moon phase is beautiful.

What also attracts me to the 5227 (regardless of the metal) is how it seems almost subtle. Not that the ALS is “loud” by any stretch. But the added touch of the moon phase certainly is more visually stimulating - not a negative.

End of the day, can’t go wrong with these references. Appreciate all of the replies.
