Would you do the trade ?

Hey Everyone

So, i am just thinking about this trade but i am not sure, I really want the 26585ce, since its nearly impossible to get it retail, i got an offer to trade in two of my pieces for this one.

26530st and 26240or( green dial leather strap) for 26585ce. Would you do the trade ?

Regards

Tough one. The spread on grey market asking prices is so big that it's hard to tell how much cash, if any, should go in which direction. Straight up, and ignoring potential consequences for the AP relationship, I'd probably do it (even though personally the 26585CE is not the grailiiest of grails for me, I'm just too big a fan of the double-balance wheel OW). The 26240, if not as a 50th, can definitely be re-acquired.

tbh, the 26585ce... i'm not a fan of. the dial is busy, covering up all the openwork. I'd much prefer the 26579ce, which for 2nd hand values, seems closer to a 1:1 trade.

it all depends on what you want. The tourbillon is the most bling and moving complication anyone can have. The Perpetual calendar is the slowest non-moving dial you can have - doesn't even have the seconds hand.

I think you should do it.
It's your grail. IMHO it's the best Royal Oak model in the current collection a close second will be 26735ST.
Your 26530ST looks amazing, but I will take the 26585CE over the tourbillon & 50th anniversary anyday of the week in my collection.
Quality over Quantity.

Wow, all of these timepieces (26530st, 26240or and 26585ce) are belong together.

You should keep what you have and acquire the new one at the boutique without trading, that would be an incredible collection.

I definitely would not do the trade. Your tourbillon looks amazing on you and that particular watch is a grail of mine, the gold chrono is also stunning.

Have you tried on the ceramic perpetual calendar? My friend has this watch and I’ve previously posted photos of it here. I’d love a ceramic AP but for me it wouldn’t be an everyday watch whereas I could easily wear the blue dial tourbillon everyday. Also the ceramic bracelet and clasp can chip quite easily.

This statement really jumped out at me and I think it matters. I like seeing a second hand moving.
I haven’t held any of those mentioned so I can’t speak to the rest of it.

I agree that the ceramic bracelet would be damaged quite easily.
Never held or worn a ceramic royal oak before

That’s not entirely true…mind is the fastest AP I have. Gaining minutes a month even without a second hand! Okay, okay, I know that’s not what you meant. However, at this stage in life I appreciate not being drawn into the “noises of the second and have the watch literally pull my attention to days and more important weeks as the key unit of time keeping to pace myself.

To OP, very hard decision. The CE and the Tourb are genuinely rare watches. Values aside and implications of selling aside, I think life is short now. Just enjoy it. If we have WWIII literally, none of this will matter and at least you get to enjoy your top pick instead of looking at two beautiful watches but wondering what might have been if you got to wear your top dream list watch.

Tough to say. Do your research with multiple trusted dealers and online and add and substract and see if it makes sense. Also, are you gonna keep it or sell it? That would make a difference on the price you are willing to take.

Ceramic is quite tough. I've had mine for over two years now and it's as good as the day I got it.

Don't let the ceramic deter you from getting the piece, if that's what you really want.

Have you asked your boutique for the 26585CE? Is it just not possible to get from them?

Would you do the trade ?

Yes. You usually buy at retail so you’re looking at a less than 60k premium above msrp. Tourb and 26565 are roughly same price.

I don’t know what 26565ce msrp but I’m pretty sure it’s gone up from its 130k CHF price

26585 is the king so easy for me

People use the term 'grail' very loosely, and i am guilty of that sometimes. But the 26565ce is the grailiest of the grails for me.

I have, it looks like it will be impossible.
