Collection Advice, what next?

Hello TRF,

Im wanting advice on what to add to my collection next. I have a budget, but don’t want to set one as I don’t mind saving many years to get a watch. I also try to get watched at retail which makes things a little tricky as many are ‘unobtainable’

My current collection:
Royal Oak blue 37mm
Day Date 40 black motif yellow gold
Rolex DaytonaC white dial
Rolex BLNR oyster
JLC Reverso ultra thin duo face

For my everyday/beater I have a Casioak

I have my name down for a Patek 5205G blue dial, which I’m pretty set on. After that though I’m not sure where to go next. I’m thinking Lange, but also a Patek manual wind chrono appeals to me.

Just looking for some suggestions. Thanks!

The 5205G is a gorgeous watch and will check the Patek box off. You’ve got a great collection already, but I could see adding a diver to your collection. There are plenty of great dive watches out there so I guess it really depends on which brand appeals to you. Other than that, I think you have all bases covered

Agreed, you are missing a diving watch in your collection.....other than that, your collection is perfect also adding a 5205!

Current collection: 1) Rolex Submariner(116610LV), 2) Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional(311.30.42.30.01.006), 3) Rolex GMT-Master II(126710BLNR), 4) Breitling B01 Navitimer 43(AB0138211B1A1)

Deciding what to get next up to the point of getting it is the happiest time for a watch enthusiast.

There are a couple of directions since your collection is so nice. How about a tourbillon? The UN Blast Tourbillon is amazing. Or a different direction since you have an AP and will have the Patek, finish the trinity with a VC Overseas.

A blue or green dial JLC Polaris. We be different, but fit right in.

How come you went with the 37 RO?

Next for me would be looking in the mirror and congratulating myself on one hell of a collection! I know you have extremely heavy hitters, but would add the 124060 for your new daily “beater”.

Aquanaut and ROC 38mm. Maybe a VC overseas but first the other two.

Have you ever thought about a simple Submariner 124060?

If you want a manual chrono and you’re not adverse to Lange, I’d ditch the 5205 and get a 1815 chrono or perhaps go with a used Datograph.

If you want a Patek calendar instead of a new 5205 maybe get a used perpetual calendar like a 5140.

Have you considered an independent? Great content on the non-Rolex forum.

I was thinking about a VC, either a simple dress watch or even their manual wind chrono. But I just feel for the money a Patek chrono or 1815 appeal to me more. I’ll look into the UN

I do actually have a BB58, if I was to go sub, possibly a 5 digit sub could add some nice verity, maybe even my birth year sub.

I have small wrists, and in the end after trying both on the 37mm fit much better. I think the 37mm is under looked, if more people tried them on side by side I think they would be surprised. Also, getting them at retail maybe that helped me as it was ‘less desirable’ and I wasn’t just going for the hype watch. I don’t know.

So I like to get all my watches new, but yes a PC is definitely on the cards in the future. And I do worry is having an AC and PC pointless. I sometimes wonder, will my exit watch be a PC chrono. Also have a soft spot for the discontinued 3940!

Never really looked into independents. Something for me to research!

I've been very tempted by the 1815, by Lange in general, but for some reason, something about their watches just screams clinical. If i were to distill it down, Lange is made with the head, Patek is made with the heart. Lange is just too perfect, which I know sounds strange given the standards we expect. I think this about other things, photography and film, sharp, modern, ultra clean just lacks a bit of soul.

Anyway, if you are set on a 5205 you should definitely get it, incredible piece, I'm waiting on a 5205r and look forward to the pickup, and to add it with a 5172 salmon dial would be a great pairing!

Yeah same here. I have two AC, 5146 and 5960; I’d be happy to roll a number of watches into a PC chrono up until it breaks and then you never see it again.

Enjoy the hunt. I was going to suggest adding a diver, but it sounds like that might not be your thing.

I would agree, although sadly this one is also in the "almost unattainable" camp if you want one from an AD.

I've had my name down for one for some time at a local AD and they told me while they're happy to try to get me one, they've never received a single one from Omega to date. By all accounts here in the UK they almost all go to the Omega boutiques in London.
