Panerai been sitting idle-winding

Hello all, my first panerai a used 00560 has been sitting in its box unwound at my parents place overseas for 5 months - I have now managed to collect the watch and have wound it around 50 times - but still it wont start

Should I keep winding? am slightly nervous of winding it constantly, I haven't reached the point where its not possible to wind it further

That does not sound normal. Try winding a bit more. I usually get to 70 or 80 winds until I feel the tension spring tighten up. But, 50 winds should have got that movement moving. May need a service already

On some of my watches I give the a couple of good shakes and that gets them going. Not very sophisticated but it does work at times.

Pam00560 is a manual winding. Shakes does not work in this case

It’s great to hear you’ve finally been reunited with your first Panerai! Given that it’s been sitting unwound for months, it may need a few extra winds to get going, especially if it’s a hand-wound movement like the 00560.

If you’ve already wound it around 50 times and it’s not showing any resistance, you could try winding it a few more times, carefully, until you feel a bit of tension. However, if it still doesn’t start after that, it might be best to have it looked at by a watchmaker, as oils can sometimes settle or thicken over time, affecting the movement. Better safe than sorry!

It does in all manual wind Panerais, you need a slight jumpstart.

I used to have to give my Pam 690 a slight shake after winding to get it going … manual wind P3000 movement
