Picking up a friend’s Rolex order

Hi guys,

My friend has been offered a watch recently but was having second thoughts. He has offered for me to take it. Was wondering if the AD allows another person to pick up someone else’s allocated watch? Or does my friend need to purchase under their name?

Won’t work, he needs to be there for the retina scan

Will not allow this for more desirable models, as it will go to the next person on the waiting list. If it’s like a 26 mm two-tone, yeah, they’ll probably let you buy it instead of him

Hi David,

Which Rolex model?

Some models may not be an issue and some will be.

Can’t your friend just buy it and pass it to you?

Just give your friend the money (or your CC) and have them buy it and give it to you?

Typically this won’t be allowed.

Depends on SA. Most of them will allocate it to the next person in line.

I turned down stainless Daytona, stainless submariner, etc and offered to my friends and they said no. They have a huge list of loyal customers who wants it.

If there is a wait list, someone else on the list will usually be offered it, which is only fair.

Ask the AD?

Either your friend will have to buy the watch (for you) or it will go to the next person the list. That is the fair way to handle it.

OP - If it’s the same as my ADs your friend would need to simulate buying the watch. This means he/she would have to pay via bank wire (if they’re not able to visit the boutique) and then issue a signed letter advising that you will be collecting the watch due to X Y reasons (travel abroad etc).

I have done this for myself several times. In my case the watch was actually for me but when it arrived I was out of country. I proceeded as above. I provided a letter permitting a friend in country to collect the watch.

'Friend' buys watch.
You buy watch from friend.

Done! He's like a flipper, except he's not making any money. This way the 'relationship' between Friend/AD is preserved.

Ask your friend to buy the watch for him. They he sells it to you at the price he paid.

I’d recommend he pick it up and then gift it to you afterwards.

If it is a direct offer, then they should honor that same offer for you.

If it is a list call, then there should not be a substitution by you, essentially screwing over the next guy in line.
