1601 dial question
Greetings..
I'm new to vintage rolex world, so please easy on me. I recently bought a rolex 1601, and I need a little guidance. The seller of this watch claims that all parts are original parts that come with the watch. But what makes me a little doubtful is the lack of lume on the hands of this watch while the dial has lume. Can it be ascertained that either the dial or the hands of this watch have been replaced? Or has Rolex ever released a combination like this? This watch is from 1971 btw, attached is the pic of the watch. Thank you and wish you all good health, fellow watch lovers. IMG_7578_11zon.jpg |

Welcome to the forum! Is the seller the original owner to make such a statement. Anyway, you would assume that a no lume dial would come with no lume hands. Any other type of combination may have been changed during the life of the watch to an owner's preference or as a replacement. I wouldn't look much into it, if it does not sing to you look for something else.. |

Thanks for the answer, Mr. TimeToGo.
No, the seller is not the original owner of this watch, he just forwards the statement the seller whom he bought this watch to since he only had this watch for 6 months. I don't have any problem with this condition and plan to find a pre-owned hands set that matches the original combination (if Rolex has never issued a combination like this, because I prefer to have the watch to look as original as possible). Cheers. |

It is a nice looking watch. The eyes are drawn to the hands and batons, not much to the tritium plots to determine anything is wrong. Good luck with the search of the hands, should not be too expensive. |

I am absolutely with the OP. A non lume handset should match a non lume dial.
So it looks like the lume or the total dial has been changed in some time |

Yes, the hands should have lume.

As noted above, it is not an original pairing.

Not the original hands. But also not a deal breaker. Good looking watch.

Yes it's an ok piece. Btw 8,6 and 9 plots have disintegrated a smidge but they do often. One to buy on price - if in UK I'd see it at c £2.6~2.7k on a leather, but I'm miserly ;^)

Hey thanks for the replies, everyone! I got this watch for a bit under USD 3.2k, a reasonable price, maybe.
A very good looking watch indeed! Especially on the flesh. And it's running at -3 to -1 s per day. I'm now tempting to getting it a non lume pie-pan linen dial in near mint condition, and maybe swapping it out when I get it fully-serviced. |

Think that's on the button (ish)..... congrats on your entry to the DJ disco.
A cheap stetched 62510h bracelet on 55 end links can be found on ebay from £325, if you look hard btw, if you are inclined

That price is in the right ballpark for a 4-digit DJ without bracelet. Because they are so common, one can afford to be picky, so I generally wait for examples that are all correct and clean. But I think the OP watch will probably look fine on the wrist. If you start upgrading dial and hands, you will be upside down on it, but maybe you don't care about that.
