Green sticker on the back of a 216570 with random serial means fake?

Hi, I'm in Hong Kong now. I went to a local forum and found a 216570 Explorer II with random serial. The warranty card is dated as Dec 2012.

I saw there's a green sticker on the back of the watch. I believe the green sticker was discontinued at around 2007-2008, am I correct?

Does this usually mean the watch is fake?

Attaching the photos of the watch from the listing.

Agree it was end of 2007 when Rolex stopped the green stickers.

Anyone can put a colored sticker on the back of watch to keep the clasp from scratching the case back.

I'm no expert but I think the watch looks fine. I wouldn't base authenticity on a sticker.

That looks more like a sticker added to protect against scratches and isn’t even trying to mimic the old ones. Notice it covers much more of the case back. The sticker on clasp OSS also clearly newly applied as the tab on that’s always been red as far as I know.

Even though picture quality is shit, clasp looks goofy to me. I would pass.

I thought the same at first but I think it has some sort of protective film on it which is distorting the look.

the gap between the clasp and flip lock, presume fake unless they can prove otherwise.

You've got to be really on the ball to buy through pre-owned dealer in Hong Kong. Not for the fain hearted. It's not so much being slipped a replica but the small details that can make a watch a great buy or not.

That's not an original sticker for sure!

The painting of GMT hour hand looks strange to me.

Thank you everyone for the comments!

Overall, I'm trying to see if this watch is genuine Rolex or fake. What do you think?

Thanks!

If this is a private seller on a local forum, I would steer clear. There are many dozens of used examples of this watch all over HK in actual stores with solid reputations.

Thanks for taking a look. What do you mean by the "the gap between the clasp and flip lock"? Is the gap too large or too small?

Local forum? A shop or what?

You don’t say if you bought it but you’ve got pictures of it on a towel, presumably in a bathroom given the backdrop of Hirudoid cream and other bottles.

People have said it looks wrong and it does, but you’re pressing for specifics.

If you’re concerned you bought a fake then the correct action is to go back to the shop and discuss it with them.

If you own a fake and you’re trying to get help making it look more convincing then this is also the wrong place.

Why are they taking pictures of it under a bathroom sink?

In fairness he says in his original post that the pics are those from the original listing on a local ( Hong Kong) forum. And as that's where he is currently, I'm guessing he might want to buy it.

that said, I wouldn't. Hong Kong is awash with very accurate fakes that have the correct hand stack and jumping hour gearing.
If the price is a bargain, well, red flag one. Why would anyone underprice a gen Rolex- They're not hard to shift.
The guy plopped it on a towel, in his bathroom, so he's not really trying hard to sell it- red flag 2.
And as others have said, this isn't a hard watch to source from anywhere respectable, so why take a chance.

OP should post a link to the original forum post so we can see images in context.

If the OP is a prospective buyer then just one ‘looks goofy’ should be enough to say fine and look elsewhere.

Why does he/she want specifics on the clasp gap? All sounds dodgy and the watch looks dodgy.

I am not buying the watch. I was curious earlier.

This is the link to the forum post -- https://www.carousell.com.hk/p/98-%E...al-1221630476/

This is a local forum post.

By the way, I was born in this Hong Kong/Macau area and moved to the USA. So I still read local forums in Hong Kong.

Never mind the sticker. The hands are not authentic nor are the link pins. But of course, price is the biggest tell yet rarely if ever shared for whatever reason.

Ref. 216570 Had Hour, Minute and GMT Hands Were Partially in Black

Galo Cinza is Incorrect. Ref. 216570 had the hour, minute and GMT hands partially in black. HOWEVER, any decent owner and/or seller of a genuine Explore II would have presented it in a neat/clean condition and NOT having grime and dirt on the band/clasp and with an old dirty towel on the/as a background. The best way is to inspect it at a decent watchmaker shop, then you make the call. The pictures, as presented, does not do any justice.
